Normally, David dreaded waking up. But this was different. It was a room he wasn't expecting, but still, her body against him felt nice and-

Her body.

David turned his head as he lay to the sight of Lilith curled up next to him, and he shuddered. She had taken to calling him Incredible, but she was the incredible one last night.

At first, Lilith awoke, but she didn't open her eyes.
Last night had been a dream, surely, it-
But she heard quiet breathing beside her and so opened her eyes.

This wasn't her bed, and there was no Peter, but also not just emptiness. It felt as if her body sunk into the mattress with relief and realisation.
Finally, she smiled, her eyes luckily too busy adjusting to the light to tear up. Then, Lilith remembered why they were in the same bed and- the details of last night, and almost smirked.

"Morning."

David smiled brightly. Lilith in bed with him saying "Morning" was something he'd never thought he'd see for himself. And she looked stunning doing it.

"I can't wait to spend every day waking up next to you like this," he whispered. He almost said "spend the rest of my life with you."
Should he...no, it was too soon to propose.

Or was it? He'd finally not been privy to some sort of magical timer. They could finally be together forever.

He bit his lip and sheepishly looked down at himself.

She watched him, quiet for a moment. She still had as many thoughts and feelings as she'd had last night, and they only seemed to be multiplying by the second.

"Yesterday... you said you hadn't been good again," She finally said quietly, "Will you tell me why?"

David exhaled, slowly, trying to piece together if there was anything beyond his usual depression and incompetence and stagnation that would've caused it.

And the usual- until last night- crushing loss and loneliness from losing everyone. Losing Lilith.

He swallowed, hard. His throat was dry.

"I was approaching the end of my rope, I think...I couldn't do anything correctly, couldn't come back to the living...I was...so broken. I never thought that a solution would...I never thought I'd...see you again."

He shivered, and curled up next to her, needing her warmth from his sudden chills but also needing her.

Lilith turned over slightly, to face him properly, but her brows furrowed. "I- didn't think so either but... you're here, now. Perhaps this is the solution?"

She doubted she alone was but- when did a new start hurt anyone?
"Back in your Narnia, I don't know what you did, but your final choice there was the right one, even if you didn't fully know what it was. You left and found here and... this has to be right."

David nodded softly. "It is right."

Back in your Narnia, I don't know what you did-

Nothing. Nothing of value, ever. I was a blight on the-

"Lilith, who am I?"

"Actually, that's probably a bad way of phrasing it. Who am I meant to be? What's...what's my adventure?"

"The Pevensies, they...came in, helped defeat the White Witch, and ruled Narnia. Is...am I even...deserving of something like that? What's my adventure, what's my time that I'll have to step up and..."

He gestured wildly, having lost the point he was making.

"...I don't know, it's just sometimes I remember that everyone, including you, has had grand adventures, and I...have basically had severe mental health problems. Sometimes I just feel...inadequate, I guess...you know? What have I ever really done to help people, or save Narnia, or...anything..."

David sighed as his body wilted in sadness. "It's okay, I'll...I guess I'll think about it for later."

"You connected the Narnias." Lilith spoke, confused as to how he could even doubt his adequacy.
"You discovered all of it, David. You did that." She sighed slightly, "You might not see the huge events that can unfold because of that, you might never see the ripple effect but think- because of you, people won't have to fight for their Narnias alone anymore."

"As for adventures... they're never fun when you're living them. Adventures don't have to be huge quests or-" she gave a short laugh, "Prophecies. We've been an adventure, David... besides, you can have whatever adventures you like here. You can be anything you want. No one knows you, it's a fresh start. You can have whatever adventures and go where you want. Here is where you can 'step up'..." The Queen smirked slightly, "Just don't go causing trouble and-"

"Aslan-" She spoke suddenly, realising, "You can be King again... or more, still be King."

She shifted slightly, dropping eye contact for a moment, unsure whether she should even bring up what it would mean if he was to be, "You could be High King... if you'd like?"

David slowly took her hand in his and nodded.

"I would absolutely adore that," he said, tilting up her face to meet his starry eyes. "I've never been High King...I..."

He took a deep breath. "You are my adventure...and..."

"I would be honored to be your High King. Would you..."

He bit his lip and moved a hand behind his back, magically creating a small object from two miniaturized stars.

He pulled it out and presented it to her. It was a ring, of two stars circling each other after crossing over.

"Will you marry me?"

There was almost some guilt as Lilith felt as if everything seemed to fall perfectly into place.
She didn't think of how it had only been four weeks since Peter, and the others, had left, because each day had felt like a lifetime.
She'd led the first week of search parties herself, she'd done everything she could-

She'd still loved them, all of them, but they were gone.

It was just her, now.
Her and David.

Her eyes clouded as she realised that, really, it always had been.

"Of course I will." She laughed slightly, "Of course."

David laughed slightly as well, almost in return, before he kissed her happily and deeply.

I love you, he thought to her, using some magic to push the thought gently into her mind. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.

Lilith pulled away slightly, looking into his eyes as she realised he hadn't said that aloud.

"You've a lot of explaining to do..." She told him after a moment, "but I suppose we'll have a lot of time for explanations, and- Aslan, you'll need coronating... it was always-" Susan that organised events.
"We'll sort it out." She decided, certain.
Then, she paused and smiled. Damn the timings and national events- "I love you, too."

David smiled at her proclaiming her love back to him, and nodded. "Yeah, it's...gonna take a bit to explain. I have magic, you already knew that, but I..."

His brows briefly furrowed. "How we re-met, in the Place Between the Worlds...I wished for you, that all started because my magic sort of unlocked all my Earth memories, but...you still only remember fragments, don't you? If that, even..."

"...Maybe I could help...restore those memories? Fully?" He asked, smiling slightly as he looked into her eyes.

"I'd like that." She replied, genuine but suddenly strangely nervous. She propped herself up to look at him better. "Where would you start or- or what first? Do you know how to restore memories? I know I remember some when we met Between Worlds but, that wasn't on purpose, was it?"

David put his tongue to the corner of his mouth in thought. "No, that wouldn't have been on purpose...I suppose I should start at the beginning, when we met...in school."

He gently cupped her face with one hand and lifted up the other.

"Are you ready?"

She smiled and took a breath. "Definitely."
