I just finished a long day of work and I'm exhausted don't get me wrong I love what I do being a social worker has its up and downs I love seeing families get better and grow from tough situations but its heartbreaking seeing it go the other day and today I had so many of those today sadly
I'm about to go home but then I remember I should go check on Dash and Ashley before checking out to bed and a glass of wine
I met Ashley back in elementary school and we were the best of friends are friendships stayed strong from 1st grade to 8th grade middle school until her dad got a raise and they moved to rich town most expensive part of town in our state so I never saw her again after the summer before middle school and we reconnected but not in the best way i just finished my masters in social working and I got a phone call saying I had a new case that I was chosen to be someone social worker and when I get to the house it's ashley she explains to me that she got into the party life in college and fell in love with a guy with a high ranking family and he broke up with because she didn't fit his or his family standards and then dumped and she spiraled and found her self pregnant she tried to get in touch with him but never went through. So I've been helping Ashley since Dash has been 1 number of times I've taken dash to my house for weeks because Ashley is not a good state but she does have good times and those are the moments I want dash to have with his mom and I don't want him going to foster care I've been in his life for so long he calls ashley mom and me mommy
I arrive at the apartment and I start hyperventilating when I see cops and an ambulance all over the place I run and a cop stops me from entering inside
"Mam you cannot enter this place is under investigation" he states
"Wait you don't understand I'm here to see a patient please I'm a social worker" I say and show my license
"Who is it you are looking for mam?" another nice cop ask me
"I'm looking for Ashley Tomas please" I say
"Please come with me" she says and I walk towards her
"I don't know how to say this but we found her dead in her apartment we found drugs and alcohol" she says
"Oh my she fell again what about her son where is he? His name is Dash" I say
"We took him to social services they are looking for family members but you may go see him here is the address" she says and gives me a paper to me and I run he's probably so scared I have shed tears for Ashley later
I drive as fast as I can and finally reach and run inside and I immediately talk to the lady in the front desk about Dash
"Yes he is here with a case worker come in I'm sorry for your loss" she says but I'm not listening my mind is spinning when I walk Dash is sitting on a chair and my heart soars

"Mommy you came for me I was scared" he screams and runs up to me give me a hug
"Of course I did baby are you okay" I say bending down at him
"I'm fine but mom is gone" he says sadly and looks down on the floor
"I know baby but she loved you you have to know that" I say
"Can I live with you now mommy forever" he says
"Hold on Dash let me speak to the lady okay sit right here" I say
I walk to the lady and she smiles at me "Hello Ms. Capri so I've looked into Ashley file and she has written a letter and in her will states that you are to be the guardian of Dash if she's passes away so if you accept you just have to go to court and sign papers but I must say on his birth certificate she did write who the father is now it's up to you but I think he should know. I spoke to Dash and he said he just has a mom and a mommy. She tells me
"Yes of course I accept to care for him and check ups are fine and I will go to court but I didn't know about his father she never told me his name but I will have no issues informing him but I want to make sure he can't just take my son" I say
"He won't be able to take away your parental rights but he can be in his life if he wants unless he's deem unfit" she says
"Oh okay and what is his name by the way?" I ask
"Henrie Archibald" she says after looking at the paper
My head starts spinning my son's father is an Archibald I've only heard horrible things about them and they are one of richest families of the world lord how is all this happening
"What day can I stop by the apartment to pick up all his stuff?I want him to be as comfortable as possible" I ask
"In 3 days after we finish a investigation of the place" she says
"Okay well thank you!" i say and I turn to go get Dash
"Come on baby let's go" I say holding out my hand
"Where are we going mommy? do I get so stay with you forever that's what I want i love you" he says
