LOGAN'S HOUSE ISN'T so far from mine so I just walk there which causes me to be ten minutes late or so but I don't think it matters.

I ring the bell that sits next to his house's door.

He opens the door. "You're late, Jones."

"Jones?"

"Isn't that your name?"

"Last name."

"So? Same thing."

"Ok, Black." I sympathize his last name.

He rolls his eyes at that.

I look around trying to memorise how his house looks to let the girls know. It's huge but simply decorated.

He leads me to his room and I just follow.

It's big.

It is based on blue and black shades. His bed has light blue sheets covered with a dark blue—almost black—comforter. The walls are royal blue and his desk and chair are black. His bedroom is minimalistic. Everything is tidied and organised. It's quite nice actually.

"So are we gonna do this or what?" He asks, annoyance filling his tone.

"Uh yeah sure" I reply.

About two hours and a half have passed and I've decide it's best if I head home now.

Right now, Logan is leading me to the front door of his house so I can leave.

Suddenly, Dylan Santiago bursts through the door as Logan and I were crossing the living room.

"Yo Log we're hanging at Ryder's hou-" He stops when he notices me.

"Oh I see you've got some company," he winks at the both of us.

I open my mouth to say something but Dylan cuts me off, "you can come as well if you'd like, it'll be fun."

I open my mouth to say something but I get cut off again but this time from Logan, "she actually was just about to go home, right Jones?"

"Uh yeah..." I say.

"Come on I'm dying for someone else to hangout with me. I'm starting to get bored with this one," he points at Logan and wide his eyes trying to offend him as a joke.

"I don't know..."

I turn back to look at Logan. He runs a hand through his hair and just shrugs.  I turn my head back at Dylan. "Fine, but I won't stay long."

~

We take Dylan's car to Ryder's house. Dylan is driving, Logan sits next to Dylan and I'm sitting at the back.

Throughout the drive, I'm kinda regretting agreeing to this.

"So... what's your name? I'm Dylan by the way." He looks at me from the mirror.

"I'm Summer."

"Nice name," he compliments me.

"Thanks." I smile cheekily at him, my dimples popping out.

Logan just stays quiet the entire ride, looking out the window while me and Dylan get to know each other.

~

We arrive after a five minute drive.

Ryder's house is enormous. I get informed by Dylan that we're going to be hanging out at his pool. I obviously don't have any bikinis brought with me so I'll just lay at a deck chair by the pool.

I feel nervous. I should have just stayed home. No one is going to want me there. I'm just a random girl showing up at their hangout.

Dylan texted the guys I'll be coming along but I still feel anxious.

I try to push the negative thoughts at the back of my brain while we make our way to the back yard where the pool is at.

At the back yard, there are three guys and two girls. I recognise most of them. I know that the guy in the pool making out with Brianna Miller, who is the cheerleader captain, is Ryder Davidson and I know the other two guys drinking beer at two deck chairs are Aaron Hamilton and Blake Cage. However, I don't know the blonde girl with the orange bikini sitting at the edge of the pool, dipping her feet in the water.

"Guys," Dylan yells to catch everyone's attention and he succeeds. Everyone lifts their heads to look at him.

"This is Summer."

Ryder and Brianna just wave and continue with their make out session. Aaron and Blake say hi and the blonde smiles at me.

I go over and sit next to the blonde girl with the orange bikini. "Hey." She gives me another one of her sweet smiles. "Hey, I'm Alice Parker."

"I love your bikini, by the way." I say. She looks down at her bikini and then back up at me. "Thank you, it's from Shein."

"Do you wanna get a beer?" She suggests.

"I don't drink, sorry." I tell her.

"Oh it's okay I'll just go get one for me then." She says that and gets up.

"So how long have you and Logan been fucking?" The question comes from Blake, whose black sunglasses are now on top of his head, and I wide my eyes in shock. They think me and Logan Black are fucking?

"We aren't... fucking." The word is hard for me to spit out. "We're just partners for a history project."

"Really?" Now Aaron's sunglasses are also on top of his head and he looks at me surprised.

Brianna and Ryder stop making out. "What happened?" Ryder asks.

"The guys were thinking me and her," Logan stops to point at me, "-were fucking." He has a look of disgust on his face.

"Y'all aren't?"

"What? No. Me and her? No fucking way dude."

"Why not? You'd actually be a really cute couple," Brianna chirps in the conversation.

"Yeah, just like me and Bri."

"Ew, no. I don't even know why Dylan invited her."

"She seems cool," Dylan defends himself.

"Black's right. I should have never come here." I get up, and turn on my heel to leave.

"Why are you leaving? You're actually listening to what Logan has to say? He hates everyone, it isn't personal," Aaron stops me from leaving.

"Yeah, stay." Ryder tells me. It's his house so I consider listening to him but I'm not sure. I think it's best if I leave.

"Still. I don't even know any of you guys. I should go."

"How are you going to leave? Your car isn't here," Dylan points out. I forgot about that. Shit. "I don't know I'll just walk I guess."

"Alone? It's dark out, you can't just go all the way to your house on your own." I'm surprised to see that the words come from Logan. Why does he even care? He doesn't even want me here anyway.

"Didn't you just say I shouldn't be invited here like two minutes ago? I'll walk it's no big deal."

"Jones-" He starts but before he gets to finish I storm out of the back yard.

. . .

So, Logan's being an asshole. But I do it on purpose cause I love character developments.

Give me a heads up if my grammar isn't good so I can edit the grammar mistakes.

quick q&a : how did you find my book? (tiktok, reading lists, etc)
