The day my mother died was probably the best day of my life.
It seems a bit insensitive to say that but it's true. Katherine Slater was a horrible woman, stunningly beautiful but nonetheless horrible. She had raven black hair and the greenest eyes I'd ever seen, a green so dark and deep it couldn't be anything other than evil.
Katherine Slater died 1988 November second on irritable Monday afternoon, where the tide was highest and the wind blew violently. I must of been painting or reading when it happened. Heard my Aunt screech like a mad woman, wailing for my uncle.
He had been in the garden or something, I watched as he ran from outside and into the house through my bedroom window. I didn't want to go downstairs, i didn't care how hard my aunt screamed.
I slowly crept from my bedroom and to the top of the stairs, watching as my uncle ran in. He stopped at looked at the corpse my aunt was cradling in her arms. My uncle fell to his knees, brushing a hand down Katherine's cheekbone, now cold and a sickly green color.
"Что случилось." My uncle says quietly, glancing up at the ceiling, the one where my bedroom sits atop.
Translation: "What happened."
"Я не знаю! Я вошел, а она лежала на полу, харкая кровью! О Боже, Ричард." She stuttered, tears slipping through the corner of her eyes.
Translation: "I don't know! I came in and she was on the floor spitting up blood! Oh god Richard."
"It's okay," He said deathly quiet switching to English, glancing at the ceiling again and again. "Get Snape, he'll know what to do." He picked up his wand with shaky fingers. When my aunt didn't move, frozen in place looking down at Katherine's body, my uncle snapped. "Now woman!" And she scrambled off the floor and out of the room.
And she scrambled off the floor and out of the room. After a few short minutes, aunt Hilda comes running back in but not alone. A tall, lanky man with mid length black hair was also with her. Weird, I had never seen him before.
His eyes went wide as he saw Katherine laying there, all motionless—and well dead. He bent down to inspect her and when he raised his head, his eyes filled with worry. "He won't be happy about this." He muttered.
He bent back down, inspecting further, "What has she eaten?" He said, coming back up, eyes now dark as he suspiciously looked at my Aunt and Uncle.
My aunt stuttered, "What do you mean?"
Lifting his head harshly, snapping at my aunt. "She's been poisoned, so I'll ask again, what has she eaten? Or better yet, what did you give her." He hissed."Nothing!" My aunt screeched, looking appalled. "We would never!"
"Save yourself the trouble, we both know after the boy, you had hated her." He said, looking bored."I hated her! Not enough to kill her! God I would never." She started crying silently.
The man looked over at the table, that still had my mother's wine glass and plate neatly placed. "Pass me the wine." He ordered and my uncle scurried to the table.
He handed the glass softly to the man, he snatched it and smelt the rim very faintly, "Poison." He commented, looking bored.
"We would nev—" My uncle started to say before the man cut him off. "I'm sure you think so." He grumbled.
His eyes wandered around the room before stopping at the stairs, it was fairly dark so he wouldn't be able to see that well. After scrunching up his forehead, he turned to my Aunt and uncle. "What of the girl?" He asked.
"She's sound asleep." My aunt said innocently.
He looked down at what was left of my mother and back to the stairs where I sat. "Clean this up and it stays between us." He says dryly like this was some sticky orange juice that had been spilled and not the murder of my mother."Thank you, Severus." My uncle says, shaking the man's—Severus's—hand and hauling my mother remains out the door. Probably to throw off the cliff, like they had before.
Snape still stood, looking around at the godawful mess of blood that was on the floor and surprisingly looked back to the stairs. His grave face did something so unexpected, he Half smiled at me, or the darkness, I couldn't tell if he knew I was here or not. And simply walked away.
I watched out my bedroom window, all the lights off and completely silent as they threw my mother's body off the cliff. I don't know if i was being dramatic or not but I swear I heard a few bones snap on the way down.
It was obvious why they did it, the sharks would finish her off before morning came. They would eat all the fatty flesh And leave the bones and teeth for the crabs to feast on.When my aunt came in later that night to tell me what had happened, I fake cried into her shoulder and said I would miss her very much.
I just wanted to distract her so she wouldn't notice the pill capsule under my pillow.
