☁️chapter 14:adulthood☁️
TWO YEARS PASSED SINCE ME AND SHUJI STARTED dating in high school. We graduated one month ago and we successfully got into college. Yes, if you're wondering me and Shuji are still together, and we go stronger then ever.
Now, high school was the easy part, graduating wasn't that big of a deal to us, because I helped Shuji with our finals and we got good scores. The problem we were about to face were much bigger, than a piece of paper.
We wanted to start our life as a couple together and in order to do that we needed a place to live while we are in college. We had a couple of bugs in our pockets and thanks to our parents we somehow got enough money to rent a small apartment close to our college.
"Tomorrow we can go and see what it's like, maybe we won't like it and we have to double our money for something better", I suggested to Shuji the night before and he agreed.
As expected the apartment was awful. It was dark, the floor was old, water was dripping from the roof and the beds were kinda..no, not kinda..they were broken. The bathroom was really bad and it had that awful smell like there was something dead inside. I looked at Shuji and I knew what he was thinking.
"What? You're okay with it?", I was surprised after we talked back at home and he nodded his head. I knew what kind of diva Shuji can be, when it comes to him, but this time I was very surprised. He agreed to live in these awful conditions, "have you lost your mind?".
"Babe, it's okay", Shuji looked at me, "I know it's not the best place, but that's all we can offer for now. We both are unemployed yet and even if we want better-we can't afford it. We gotta get use to whatever we have", he explained.
"I know, I know, but..are you really willing to live in these conditions?", I sat next to him and he wrapped his arms around me.
"It's going to be very temporary..we are going to find jobs and when we earn enough money-we'll move out, okay?".
I felt like a brat that night and I knew Shuji was right. So I had no choice, but to swallow my pride and be happy with what we have.
We moved in a week later and the first week was very bad. I couldn't sleep, because of the awful smell coming from the bathroom and we had to sleep on the floor most of the nights, but eventually it started feeling like home. Shuji and I managed to turn it into one thanks to the energy we brought in.
Not long after Shuji found a job in a restaurant next to our building and I started working in a shop, that sales shoes, which was the best part. The first year of college I gotta admit, that we faced a lot of struggles, but then thanks to the owner of the restaurant Shuji found a very nice work in a office for a business, that works with big names like HP and Apple. He wears glasses now, have I told you?
5 months in and we finally had enough money to move out, but we decided to buy this crusty apartment and change it into a home. Since Shuji was making enough money for now, I was mostly at home, so I had plenty of time to do the repairs. It was two bedroom apartment, one kitchen, bathroom and a balcony. It was perfect for us two.
Adulthood gotta be the hardest thing we had to face, but slowly everything worked out. When the repairs were ready I invited Draken and his girlfriend Emma from my class to visit. Me and Emma got very close, we used to talk back in high school, but we weren't besties. Draken and Shuji got used to each other, they don't love the idea of friendship, but they put up with our hang outs and meetings.
I don't know what happened to the other guys from high school. I heard Mitsuya has his own sewing workshop, Chifuyu became a pilot and Baji..well, I don't know. I haven't been in touch with Mikey, but I know he has some kind of issues. Oh, do you remember Akashi? The guy, who had to pretend to flirt with me, so me and Shuji can get together? He's in the same class with me in college. He's pretty fun too.
One night I felt a little bit nostalgic, so I decided to invite them all for a dinner at my place. Shuji was okay with the idea, but he insisted on inviting Kisaki. He knows damn well I don't like this guy, I rolled my eyes and agreed on inviting that clown.
They all came, even Mikey showed up, which surprised me. We gathered around the table in the living room and everyone were having a good time, especially me. We drank a couple of bottles and we started to ask each other a little bit if uncomfortable questions. All fun and games until Kisaki asked:
"So, y/n and Hanma, when are you two going to get married?".
Everyone got silent and looked at us. Both me and Shuji looked at each other. We never thought about marriage, we didn't find it very important nor we believe in it.
The same night we got to bed and I was laying next to Shuji, who turned to face me. I can see his eyes slowly closing. I didn't want to bring it up, but it felt pretty awkward, so I had to.
"Shuji".
"Hmh?", he hums in response and I knew he was half gone at that point.
"About what Kisaki said..I don't think it's something important. I mean..we don't have to get married to love each other, right?".
"Mhm", he closed his eyes, are you even listening to me, dude?
"But like..if we're going to get married one day, would you like the idea? Okay, I didn't ask the question right. What I meant is..".
"Baby!", he finally spoke and looked up at me, he held my hand in his and I calmed down for a second, "please don't stress about it, when the time comes..we'll do it, okay? Right now we can enjoy our college years, save some money and eventually buy a bigger place".
"I know, but..I don't want you to think that I'm pressuring you into marriage".
"I'm not thinking that. There's time for everything in our lives and I believe this day will come one day, but not right now. We are good the way we are, aren't we?", he smiled.
"Yeah, we are", I snuggled with him and we both fell asleep.
