When Eddie wakes, he notes Steve's no longer beside him. He pouts, glancing around the room to see if there's any hints to where he could be. He strains his ears, hearing a faint noise beyond his door. It's muffled laughter, he realises. With a quick stretch and yawn, he finally ascends from his bed. He groans as his knees creak from the movement, a hand coming to rub his sore behind. He looks at his alarm clock; 9:23 pm. Holy shit, he slept for so long. He's kind of annoyed with himself after wasting his precious Steve time on sleeping. He heads to the kitchen, the laughter getting louder. He walks in on Steve and Wayne both having a beer whilst watching 'Monty Python's Life of Brian'. Steve is mimicking Brian's mother in a high pitched voice. Eddie quietly leans against the doorframe, wanting to watch their interactions some more before interrupting them. "He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy!" is quoted by Steve through heavy giggles, tears brewing at the corner of his Uncle Wayne's eyes.
"Eddie!" Steve excitedly exclaims, the biggest smile on his face, "come watch Life of Brian with us!" he pats the seat next to him. Eddie just smiles, grabbing a beer before sitting down next to Steve. They kept their distance, though barely as their knees were still touching.
"Your friend here-" Wayne chokes out, still laughing. He wipes the corner of eyes where the tears were collecting, "-has me blue in the face from laughing. I'm surprised you weren't woken sooner by us, son."
"Must've been really tired, Uncle." Eddie smiles, giving Steve a pointed look when he moves his knee suggestively against Eddie's. He hears a ding, looking at the kitchen curiously. He gets more confused when it's Steve that makes a move, not Wayne.
"You're just in time, actually." Steve said, fumbling around with a plate. He disappears from Eddie's line of sight for a minute, before turning around with a huge grin, "I made spaghetti and meatballs for all of us. I was just waiting on the garlic bread to finish before I woke you, but your stomach must've sensed it." He laughs kindly as he trays up the food. Wayne puts his beer down, rubbing his hands together excitedly. Eddie is too stunned to speak.
"You cooked?" Eddie says, voice laced with amazement. He made them food? Not only the two of them, but for Wayne as well? That was so.. Thoughtful.
"Of course! What kind of guest would I be if I didn't show my thanks by cooking you a meal?" He shrugs nonchalantly, handing Wayne his plate first. He hands Eddie his own, sitting down beside him. "Besides, I know Wayne was fishing all day and probably didn't eat and you've been asleep since like 5:30pm so I knew you didn't eat and I also didn't eat so it's a win-win-win, right?" He smiles that beautiful warm smile at Eddie before digging into his food. He slurps a pasta noodle up obnoxiously, making Eddie laugh when it hits his nose, painting sauce all over the tip. Eddie wipes it for him, not being able to help how affectionately he's smiling at Steve.
"You know boys," Wayne says between a mouthful, Eddie complaining about being able to see his food that he's chewing, "you don't have to act weird around me. I'm well aware of what's happening here." He points back and forth with his fork, before shovelling another mouthful in, "and it's totally fine by me." Eddie freezes as he takes his first bite. He looks at Steve from his peripheral vision, scared to see his reaction, but shocked to see there was none.
"Oh yeah?" Steve says casually, "That's cool." Steve smiles at Eddie, nudging him with his shoulder as he says, "eat up before it gets cold, babe."
And just like that, it was out. Eddie felt awkward for all of 30 seconds, but that quickly dissipated when Steve and Wayne continued to munch on their delicious dinner whilst simultaneously laughing at the movie. Eddie found it almost painfully endearing how Steve and his Uncle got along. He finally relaxed, enjoying his yummy food whilst spending quality time with his two favourite people.
