Miranda's pov
They don't expect him to live. Who would do such a thing?! Mike walked in. "What happened to the shooter?" I whisper, my voice hoarse from crying so much. "The crowd got to him. It wasn't pretty." "Good." I growl, clenching my fists. My loving wonderful husband was hooked up to all kinds of machines. The bullet hit him in the head. I'm so fucking scared. I've never been this scared in my life. The doctor says he's got a 15% chance of even waking up, much less coming out of this with brain damage. He wouldn't want to live like that. I don't know what to do. I shakily set his hand on my belly. He cut his hand in the fall, I just noticed. "Must've scraped it on the stage." I whisper, my body shaking as sobs hit me. The door opened. A nurse. "A woman is asking to come in but she isn't related to you." "What's her name?" "Marlene." "My mom." I mumble, still holding his hand to my stomach, hoping he'll feel the baby. "You can send her in." Mike had his head in his hands. "Oh honey! I came as soon as I heard!" She gasped, hugging me. I stay quiet, not knowing what to say. "I love you so much, Jay." I whisper.
*a few weeks later*
My mom brought me food. But I was too nauseous to stomach anything. It hurt so bad to think Jason was going to die. His doctor came in. "Miranda we need to discuss some stuff with you." He said, pulling up a chair. "He's unable to breathe on his own and his brain functionality is at 10%. I'm afraid he's more or less brain dead." My mind is screaming not to give up. I just don't know what to do. I know he wouldn't want to be hooked to machines the rest of his life. "He was... Going to be a dad." I whisper, horrified. "That scumbag is lucky the fans got to him before I did." Mike growls, pissed off. We had both been crying while reminiscing. Luke got up here with a change of clothes for me. "I wasn't sure if you wanted something unrestricted or not so I brought a dress and a regular outfit." He said, holding up my favorite blue dress. My heart broke, remembering how stuttery he was when I wore that. I burst into tears and my mother hugged me. "I can't go on without him!" I yell, wrapping my arms around him. "Jason, please you have to wake up!!! I need you!! Our baby needs you!! Please!!" Luke pulled me gently off of him. I was so scared. I didn't want to leave him. But I reluctantly went to the bathroom to change out of the clothes I'd been wearing for a week and a half. I couldn't fight back the tears and fell to my knees, crying my eyes out. "God please!!! Don't take my husband!! Don't take him away from me!!"
*a few days later*
I lay beside him in the bed, holding his hand and singing softly to him. "Felt love pourin' down from above, got washed in the water... Washed in the blood. And now I'm.... Changed.... And now I'm... Stronger! There must be something in the water." I sang his favorite love song, Love in The first Degree. Then I sang Thomas's song Life Changes. He said that was our song. I shakily rested my hand on his chest. His heartbeat was surprisingly strong. The doctor was surprised by that and it was the only thing giving us all hope. Maybe he was strong enough to come back. "Hello, Miranda." The doctor said, walking in. "We're going to do another scan. Make sure the pressure hasn't gone up at all." I sit up, shaking slightly from fear. "Will he have to have another surgery?" I shakily ask. He's had to have 5 surgeries over the last two days because of the swelling on his brain. "If it is swollen more, yes." He says, sounding nervous. "Do you believe in God?" I worriedly ask, holding my gentle husband's hand. He looked away. "I... Not really... I.." A nurse walked in with a sympathetic smile. "Would you like me to pray for your husband?" She asks, smiling kindly. I smiled for the first time in a long time. "That would be so helpful. Thank you ma'am." She hugs me and said a prayer and I felt so much lighter. "You're going to wake up, Jason. I believe in you."
