Miranda's pov

His physical therapist was trying to get him to walk again. He looks in so much pain. It hurt to see it. His hands were shaking around the bars he was holding onto. Luke pat my back then cheered for him. I forced a scared smile and did the same. He took a few steps then wiped the sweat off his forehead.

Jason's pov

It has been nothing but struggle and pain the last few weeks. My legs feel like jello and buckle under me. It hurts so damned bad. "That was great!" "Great? I walked five steps. How is that great?!" I growl pissed off. "Most people don't even live through what happened to you. Every bit of good is a small victory." Nikki, my physical therapist said smiling. I glare at the ground frustrated. "You can do it, Jase. You'll be back on that stage in no time!" Luke shouts, smiling. I can't help but smile. That guy always has my back. He and Miranda sure know how to keep my spirits up. They quickly walk over and help me stand. I can do this. I will do this. "Thanks guys." I say, hugging her tightly. I managed to walk the whole 18 foot course. It wasn't easy. But I did it. And that's one step closer to gaining my mobility back. One step closer to living a normal life. Thankfully I got a wheelchair to go back to my room. I was exhausted. I leaned my head back, trying to catch my breath and make the fiery burning pain go away. My arms and legs were searing. It's been 4 months since I was shot in the head. 4 long and very grueling months. I don't regret my decision to come back. At some points, my mind was screaming at how stupid I was for putting myself through this instead of just dying, pain free. But then I see her, pregnant with my ring on her finger, and having my last name. It fills me with determination to keep pushing forward. As soon as I get settled into bed, Nikki walks in with a cake! My mom and dad are behind her. I could tell my poor mama had been crying. She quickly hugged me tight. "Hey mama. I'm doing okay." Nikki cuts the cake and gives pieces out. "Thanks. This.... This means alot." "You deserve it. You've worked so hard. You've surpassed every other patient I've ever had. None have been up and walking as soon after this." Wow. "We're going on a kick ass tour once you're back on your feet." Luke said, making me smile. "You know it, brother." Miranda's mom came in. She had a giant teddy bear which made me laugh. It had a comically large lollipop in it's paw. "What're we gonna do with a giant teddy bear?" I mumble, laughing slightly. "We can put it in the nursery. I'm sure our sweetheart will love it." Miranda says,  her hand on her stomach. She looks so amazing. I'm so glad she's pregnant. I'm going to be a dad and it's the coolest thing ever. Not to mention, she looks hot as fuck. She sits on the edge of the bed and I can't help but smile. I pull her into a tight hug. "I wouldn't be able to live through this without you." "I'll never leave you." Suddenly a very familiar and frustrating pain shoots through my head. Neurons misfiring, doctor said it would happen frequently but once they're fully healed it'll go away. I tried to pretend I was fine but the heart monitor kicked up and mom asked what was wrong. "Nothin' I'm fine. Just... My head. It happens." I say, laying back, the pain subsiding slowly down to a dull ache. My poor mother looked so concerned. I wish like hell she wasn't so upset. I'll be fine. Soon. I hug her tight. "I'm alright, mama. I promise." The celebration starts to die down until it's just Miranda and Luke and her mom. "Honey how about we go grab food for the boys?" My sweet girl smiles, holding my hand. "I'll be back soon. Love you." I slowly sit up and kiss her goodbye. "That beautiful amazing woman completes me." I whisper after they leave. "How's your muscles?" Luke asks, sitting in the chair beside my bed. "They hurt like a bitch. I... I gotta tell you something." I say, wiping the sweat off my hands. "What's up?" I tell him everything that happened to me. I haven't told a single soul about that til now. It still sends chills down my back. "I think I know why they seemed sad." I say, staring at the bed sheets, imagining my poor grandfather's face. "They knew how much pain I was going to be in." "Wow." He whispers shocked. "I'm so glad they gave you a choice." I force a smile and think of my little girl, coming in 4 months. "I can't wait to hold my baby girl." He smiles. "And walk her down the aisle?" He joked making my eyes go wide. "She ain't dating til I'm dead or she's thirty." He laughs and Miranda gets back with chipotle. My favorite. I smile gladly. "You know just what I need, baby." I say, smiling as she sits beside me. I rest a shaky hand on my beautiful wife's belly. "We can't wait to meet you little girl." I whisper, happily stroking her stomach. I can feel a limb or soemthing against her belly. She must be in a strange position. She laughed and held my hand. "She's excited too. Been moving around and kicking for the better half of an hour." I can't stop smiling. We dig into chipotle. I'm going to be alright. It'll take some time but I won't give up. I won't back down.
