Miranda's pov
I was hanging out with my dad today since it's been a while since I've seen him. The busyness of my vet career and finally growing up has made it impossible to meet with family. We were going to a movie when my mom called us saying get home fast. My parents are divorced and my mom is remarried. I wonder what she wants me for.
Jason's pov
My stupid truck broke down again. Luckily the house I broke down in front of has a skilled carsman living there. "I think it's time I got a new truck altogether." I mutter as he works on it. "I'll get ya runnin'. I've got an old Nova in the garage that more than 30 years old and I can make her run." He says. I smile. His wife brings out sweet tea for us. "Ya know, I never did catch names." I say. "Oh I'm Marlene and this is Chris my husband." The woman says. We shake hands. "My name's Jason." I say. We just talk about random junk while her husband works on my truck. A ford pulls up into the grass and a young woman, about my age steps out. She's hot! "Whoa! Mama!" I gasp, almost dropping my sweet tea. "Mama, what was the urgent reason I had-" she stops mid sentence when her gorgeous green eyes land on me. I've been staring at her since she got out but I quickly avert my stare when she looks over at me. "My gosh Jason Aldean!" She gasps, walking over. She must be a fan. Double score! "What brings you here?" "Oh my darn truck. Your dad is fixing it." I say. "Step dad. That's my dad." She says, pointing to the ford. "So what's your name?" I ask. "Miranda, it's awesome to finally meet you." She says. I am loving where this is going. "Hey guys, it's getting kinda late. Why don't we work more in the morning." Her mom calls. It is getting late. I didn't even realize. "Ya wanna come inside?" She asks. I'd feel too weird doing that. "Maybe later. Right now, I'm just gonna sit on my tailgate." I reply walking over to it. "Mind if I join you?" She asks. "Not at all, darlin'." I was hoping she'd ask to join me. She sits beside me. "Mosquitoes are gonna start comin' out." She says. I smile. "Don't worry, I've got a mosquito net. I use it when I go night hunting." She smiles and looks away. Her mom calls her inside. "Come on it'll be fun." She says, grabbing my hand, sending jitters down my spine. I don't want her to let go so I grip hers tighter. "Ya comin'?" "Yeah, I'm on my way." I say, letting go of her hand so I can put the tailgate up.

I don't know why but Jason seemed really nervous. He stands by his truck. I think he's talking to himself. I shrug and wait by the door for him. He finally follows me over. We go inside. My parents have Titanic in. Why do they watch that over and over!!? He sits on the couch by my stepdad and I sit by him. "Thanks for fixin' my truck." He says. He sounds really nervous. I wonder why. "Of course. I'm a helpful guy." He says, getting up to grab a beer. "Hey ya want one?" He calls. Jason for some reason glances at me for a second. "Nah, I'll skip it tonight." He stands up and walks to my stepdad.

"Can we talk in private?" I ask in a whisper, glancing back at her again. She caught me last time so I need to be careful. "If this is about paying me, you don't need to." He says. I shake my head. "It's about your daughter." His eyes go wide and we walk in the other room. "What about my daughter?" He asks. "Well, I kinda like her. I wanted to ask you before I ask her out." I try to explain the best I can but I'm terrible at it. "Wait.... You have a crush on her?" He gasps. "I wouldn't call it a crush. More like I wanna get to know her and see where things go." I say. "You can admit that you like her it's okay." He says, smiling. "It is? So I can ask her out?" He nods. I'm beyond shocked. It's never gone that easy before. I'm about to leave when he stops me. "But boy, hear me when I say this. You see that 12 gage?" I nod nervously. "Hurt my little girl and I won't even have to use that." He warns. "Duely noted sir." I say.

I sit crosslegged on the couch, watching the movie since there's nothing else to do. Jason and Chris walk back out. Hm, I wonder what they were talking about. He goes to the garage and Jason sits beside me. "So what were you and my stepdad talking about for so long?" I ask. His eyes go wide. "Uh, nothin' just my truck." He mumbles, putting his hands in his pockets. I'm gettin' kinda hungry so I get up to get a snack. Not long after, I hear boots on the hardwood. I stop and turn around. It's Jason. "Hey." He waves and leans against the fridge, his eyes closed and his hands in his pockets.

She doesn't seem any interested in me or maybe she's just good at hiding. She did smile when we sat together on the couch and when I walked over. "Hey, I was wonderin' if ya wanted to grab some late dinner with me?" I ask. She looks at me surprised. "Sure, I'd love to." She says. Yes! She said yes! "So where are we going?" She asks. "I don't know. Let's see where the night takes us." I reply. Her stepdad is letting me borrow his truck for tonight. That guy rocks.
