Chapter 3: Wolf in Sheep Clothes?

     Zewu Jun greets Mo Xingyi outside her room in the middle of the night. He tells her that the Lan clan has A-Nuan. He wants to ask her about the doubling cases that has come to be around the town. He believes it has something to do with her.

Zewu Jun: Mo Guniang, you can trust A-Nuan with the Gusu Lan Clan.

Mo Xingyi: Thank you, Zewu Jun.

Zewu Jun: Would you happen to know why A-Nuan was outside alone?

     Mo Xingyi wonder what she should say. Should she lie or tell the truth? She wasn't supposed to be out. Xingyi went through all possibilities in her head.

Mo Xingyi: If it gets out that I and A-Nuan escaped to the lantern festival then it would eventually lead to the truth. Aunt Mo is still upset at A-Naun. She would punish or even kick A-Nuan out of the Mo Mansion. However if I lie... A-Nuan would be the sole factor and Aunt Mo can't have her punished when she is the victim! That should get her out of punishment!

Mo Xingyi answers Zewu Jun: I'm sure she went for the lantern festival. I couldn't go but that shouldn't stop her. Is she alright?

Zewu Jun gives her a kind smile: A-Nuan should be fine. We expect her to wake tomorrow evening.

Mo Xingyi: What happened to her?

Zewu Jun looks at the stars: It's the middle of the night. We can talk about it tomorrow. Would you please meet with me after breakfast?

Mo Xingyi nods: Of course.

   Zewu Jun leave Mo Xingyi's gates. He made some observation. Mo Guniang did not seem to have any ounce of darkness with her or even around her. Perhaps such clear light is what is drawing in all the cases.

     In the morning, news of a disturbance to last night's mission got everyone talking. They talk about the numbers they counted with ranges from 30-40 people being creatures. Had it scared away the cases?

     The talk and worry about the cases being around is among the adults. Among the youngsters that were there, they whisper about Jin Chan's bravery.

     "I heard he defeated three demons by himself." said one.

     "I heard he has already solved three cases!" said another.

      Jin Chan walks into the guest hall where the adults calculate what do to next. He is barely scratched. Other than the bandage around his forearm, he was perfectly normal.

      Jin Chan feels like he was a hero to defeat monsters and save a damsel all in one night. Of course, he had broken the no engagement rule but what was he supposed to do? He couldn't let them take away the girl. A lot of rumors from last night brings more stress on him though. He did not defeat them. He only got them to scatter away.

       He sits by Jin Ling with the rest of the juniors. Jin Ling talks about the worry of Mo Xingyi. He hasn't seen her after returning her to the Mo Mansion.

Jin Ling: Mo Guniang is so selfless. She thinks of A-Nuan even when she can get in trouble herself.

Jin Chan: That's incredible. For that mad servant, I would pay money for people to TAKE her. Mo Guniang is too light on her. Her servant, that Nuan girl, walks in front of her and Mo Guniang even chases after her servant. Ugh, I'd never.

Zizhen: Well, you saved her last night. You can't think that badly on A-Nuan.

Jin Chan: You're looking too much into it. I despise that Nuan girl. I only saved her to get my solved cases higher. I wanted a head start. Besides, I'm held a hero for saving her until my next great deed.
