Chapter 9: Tension of the Jins

    Jin Suyin walks into the welcoming hall where Jin Guangyao and Qin Su are watching the dance group's performance for next week's event. The dancers end their performance and Qin Su takes over, giving them praises.

Jin Guangyao turns to Suyin: A-yin, you're here. Good, brother was just going to call for you.

Suyin: Brother, what is it?

Jin Guangyao: Mother and father are not here no more. As clan leader, it is my duty to make sure you end up somewhere well. You don't have to marry right now if you don't want to but I think we should at least have a marriage arranged for you.

Jin Suyin: Is brother tired of me? Do you want to send me away? I only want to stay in Lanling with brother and sister-in-law.

Jin Guangyao: Don't think such things. Brother just wants you well off. I was thinking that I could talk with Zewu Jun and have one of his top disciples receive the privilege of later marrying our Jin Suyin. Nothing would make me more happy than seeing my own sister unite my clan with my sworn-brother's clan.

Jin Suyin: Oh, I see. 

    Jin Suyin turns around to walk out. She leans closer to Jin Guangyao.

Jin Suyin: Brother, don't send me away. The Mo tried to marry me off to a nobody and that didn't end well or them.

Jin Guangyao smiles: Meimei, don't worry. You only deserve the best. 

    As Suyin walks out Jin Guangyao knew he was making the right choice. Removing her from him will hopefully keep her silent.

    As a small group of Lan disciples get ready to leave for a case, Zewu Jun and Grandmaster Lan saw them off. The sun was not waiting and had already begun setting. By the time they get to the town, it would be dark. 

   At the gates of Cloud Recesses, Zewu Jun gave them safety reminders.

Zewu Jun: You are going to help the people, keep the people safe including each other. Be kind and come back soon.

    The group of disciples bow: Yes, Zewu Jun.

Lan Qiren: Changbi.

    Changbi walked to the front of the group and put her hands together.

Changbi: Grandmaster Lan.

Lan Qiren: Changbi, don't cause trouble. Listen to Sizhui. You are only going to observe. You cannot participate in capture. 

Changbi wanted to object but she did not protest: Yes, Grandmaster Lan.

    Changbi knew that it was only because Grandmaster Lan felt that she did not have enough experience that he is telling her to hold back.

   The disciples go down the mountain. This is Changbi's first time leaving Cloud Recesses. She marveled at the greenery. As they got closer to town, Changbi was already exhausted. It had become the long walk through the mountain that she remembered from 5 months ago. Oh, how she loathed the long walk.

   Jingyi seems to noticed that Changbi was falling behind. He went to the back of the group while Sizhui led them.

Jingyi whispers: A-Nuan, are you tired?

Changbi: A little bit. It has been such a long walk.

Jingyi: I'll carry you on my back.

Changbi: Don't be crazy. I can walk. You'll embarrass me.

Jingyi: Embarrass you?

Changbi nods: Yes, what if you're too weak to carry me and they think that I'm just very very heavy?
