Kanan's POV:

"What's wrong with im?" Zeb asked me as Ezra left the kitchen.

"I don't know. I'm going to ask him" I said as I stood up from the table to follow Ezra, but Hera stops me by putting her hand on my shoulder.

"Dear, I think Ezra needs some time to himself right now" she told me.

I sighed again and sat back down. What has gotten into him recently?

As ten whole minutes past I began to worry more about Ezra, and decided to talk to him.

I knocked on his door, but there was no answer. "Ezra? Look Ezra, we need to talk. Can I come in?" I ask.

"Yeah sure" he replies, and I open the door to see the blue haired teen sitting at his desk drawing.

I sit down at the edge of his bed. "Look, kid... what's up with you? You've been acting strange for weeks now" I ask him.

"I just miss my friends, Kanan. That's all" he replies, "I want to see them".

"Kid. You know that I can't allow that. If you get spotted-" I started .

"I won't" he interrupted me.

I decided to continue, "if you get spotted, you could put them and yourself in danger. And as your legal guardian it is my job to keep you safe" I finished calmly.

"The Imperials wouldn't find us" he protested.

"You don't know that" I interrupted more sternly.

"Come on Kanan. You know how I grew up. I'm not used to all these... rules" Ezra frowned and got up from where he was sitting before moving to look out of the window. "Out on the streets there where no rules".

"I know, but your here now Ezra. Your not on the streets anymore. Okay? Just... enjoy being an average kid rather than a teenage gang leader, for once" I offered with a smile, ruffling his hair.

"But Kanan. I need to know they're okay!" He protests again.

"No. You need to listen to me. They're going to be fine. Look. It's dark and I don't want you out there at night. You got that Ezra?" I asked gently. "Are we clear?" I repeat.

Ezra frowned, "we're clear". He handed me his painting before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.

I gazed down at the art in my hand. It was the Rebels Symbol. The Phoenix.

"I take it the talk didn't go to well then" came a voice from the door

"I take it the talk didn't go to well then" came a voice from the door.

I turned around to see Hera leaning against the doorframe.

"I just had to ban my son from seeing his childhood friends. How'd you think it went?" I replied with an eye role.

Hera huffed a laugh. "He's a teenager Kanan. You expect him to just agree with you just like that?", she clicked her fingers.

"It's my job to protect him Hera. What do you expect me to do? Just let himself get killed?!" I question.

"No, no, no! I'm just saying that... Ezra's fifteen, almost sixteen, and has been on the streets for eight years, he doesn't need someone to protect him. He needs someone to support him. He needs to know that we're here to help him. Not to hold him back" she explains.

"Okay, I understand" I say and leave to go and find Ezra. Again.

Ezra's POV:

After talking with Kanan I went back downstairs and out onto the porch by Zeb. I needed some air.

"Hey Kid. Whatcha doing out here" Zeb asks me with a smile.

"I needed some air. Nothing makes sense anymore. Why won't Kanan let me see my friends?!" I ask agitated.

Zeb frowns, "calm down. Kanan's just trying to protect ya kid, and ya know that?" He explains.

I sigh, "I know. I didn't mean for any of it to come out that way. I guess I'm just upset".

"Why don't you tell im that then" Zeb said. And as if on queue Kanan came out the door and stopped in front of me.

"Look Kanan, I'm sorry. You know this is all still pretty knew to me and-", I get cut off as Kanan speaks.

"no kid. I didn't explain myself right. I understand that you can take care of yourself, and that you even took care of others, but I want to give you the same thing that you gave them. Support" he explains.

"What are you trying to say?" I ask him.

He smiles and places a hand on my shoulder, "tonight... I'll go with you to Tarkintown".

I give him a look, "are you being serious right now? You're not messing with me?" I ask him.

He shakes his head and smiles. "I come, or you stay. Take your pick".

I beam back and hug him. "thank you, thank you, Thank You!".

He huffs a laugh and returns the gesture. "Your welcome kid".

I look around Kanan and see Zeb smiling at me, "see kid. I told ya talking would work".

"Yeah, who knew you had brains as well as muscle" Sabine laughed from the doorway, which earned a glare from Zeb.

I was going to see my friends!
