We pull up outside a massive house where a group of children are playing with a dog in the front garden. Mike winks at me before lifting me out of the car. "Listen up everyone! This is Lottie. Please make her feel comfortable and welcome. Alright Lottie?" I nod beaming. This is like a dream, Ben hated it if I ever played with other kids. Mike nods and places me down on the ground. I look around and one of the girls comes up to me. "Hello Lottie. I'm Tee. This is Mischief." On seeing that I'm ok, Mike leaves, heading into the house. The dog licks me, reminding me of a dog that Mummy and I used to have before she met Ben. "Aww, Mischief likes you" I frown remembering something that Ben once told me. This memory creates confusion and I begin to cry because I hate being confused. "Hey, what's the matter?" Tee asks concerned as she kneels down in front of me. "Mischief can't like me. No one does." She hugs me tightly, stroking my hair soothingly. "Who told you that? I can assure you that that's not true. I like you" "Ben, Mummy's boyfriend. He said that I'm evil and that I should never have been born. He said that that's why my brother Liam, isn't trying to find me. He says Liam doesn't want to know me" "Hey guys! Who's this?" We turn to see a young man in a hoodie leaning againstthe wooden gate. "Hey Liam! This is Lottie. She's only just arrived" He stands up straight, evidently shocked and I frown. "Lottie, you say? Lottie, how old are you?" "Three. What's it to you? He beams and then I realise why he's asking. It all fits. His name's Liam, he's a guy and he has some of the same features as me. "Stay away from me" I stumble backwards nearly falling over Mischief. "Lottie, I'm not going to hurt you. I've been trying to find you for ages" I shake my head. Mummy would have told me. She wouldn't keep something like that away from me. "Please. Jack and I tried so hard to get in touch when we found out about you. Your adopted mother always told us that you were out or asleep" I shake my head in disbelief. "No, you're lying. You have to be" I shake my head trying to get my head around it. "I promise you, I'm not lying" I nod, seeing that he's telling the truth. I've been around enough liars to know the difference between a liar and someone who's telling the truth. "Alright. I believe you. I was told that you hated me so you never even tried to make contact" He shakes his head and puts me onto his shoulders. "No. As I said, Jack and I tried so many times to make contact with you." I frown I've never heard of someone called Jack before. "Who's Jack?" he chuckles moving me down to his hip so that he can kiss my head. I smile and play with his hoodie strings. "Jack's our big brother, want to meet him?" I nod eagerly. "Good thing he's coming by to pick me up later, then, isn't it?" I bounce up and down and he chuckles. "Uh-uh. If I drop you, I'd feel awful" I nod and stop bouncing, instead choosing to grab hold of his hoodie. "Shall we get some food? You look like you could do with some" I nod and we head off.
