summary: kuroo is New York on business, leaving kenma all alone. luckily, kenma gets a new furry friend in his life to keep him company.

"Alright, thank you guys for watching!" Kenma smiled and waved into his webcams as goodbye messages flooded the chat. "I'll see you guys tomorrow at two. Byeeee." He disconnected the stream and sighed as he took off his headphones.

He had emails to send and games to preview, but he was drained. He'd already backed his streaming schedule down to once a day, losing a few hundred thousand followers in the process, but it didn't seem to help. It was almost like his exhaustion had just swallowed the extra free time, sinking him lower and lower.

He stumbled over to the couch, not even bothering to grab the remote from the coffee table. He wouldn't have been able to focus on a show anyway.

His phone rang, and he turned over to dig it out of his pocket. "Hello?"

"Kenma! How are you?"

"Sleepy," he mumbled. "How's sports promotion?"

"Have you eaten yet?" Kuroo asked.

"No."

"Get a banana, then put one of those meals in the oven."

"No, Tetsu," Kenma groaned. "I just need a nap right now."

"Eat and then nap, just trust me. I'll video call, it'll be like a date."

"Lame," said Kenma, but he stood up anyway.

"I can't see you, is the connection bad?"

"You're in my pocket."

"Kenma!" Kuroo whined.

"Relax, I'll set you up in the kitchen."

"You better."

He balanced the phone on the table against a pot holding a spiky succulent. Kuroo got it for him right before leaving for the job transfer. "See its hair?" Kuroo had asked. "It's basically a mini-me."

Kenma tried to take care of it, but he kept forgetting to water it, and his blinds were always closed. It hadn't taken long for it to wilt and die.

"There you are," said Kuroo. "Just as beautiful as ever."

Kenma rolled his eyes as he took a banana from the fruit bowl. He turned back to the camera as he peeled it then took a bite.

Kuroo's hair was as messy as ever, looking comical paired with his perfectly tailored suit.

"You have a meeting?" Kenma asked with his mouth full.

"Just got out of one," said Kuroo. "Did you turn on the oven?"

Kenma groaned, but went over to press 375 into the keypad.

"I miss you," said Kuroo.

"You too," said Kenma. "When are you coming back?"

"Not before the end of the quarter. The company's being bought so I'm completely booked for the next month or so."

"I see," said Kenma. He shouldn't be too torn up about it. He and Kuroo didn't see each other much even when cohabitating, with both of their jobs taking so much time.

But he missed having someone to sleep next to.

"How is your channel going?"

"Fine," he said. "I just started a DarkSouls replay that's really popular."

"Tell me about it."

He rambled about the mechanics, the strategies he normally went for but were casting aside to show off the whole game, how the sequels tied into the original.
