LUCAS SINCLAIR

"Sinclair! Where the fuck are you!" I heard being yelled from the other side of the hallway.

I looked over to see Max Mayfield making her way towards me.

"Dude, what did you do to her this time?" I heard my friend, Will ask me.

"Something." I muttered, honestly scared for my life, seeing her getting closer to me.

" 'Something' big or 'something' small?" Mike questioned.

"Mike use your head. If it was something small, I don't think she would be charging at him like a bull who sees red." El chuckled, wanting to see how this interaction will play out.

I looked back at my friends for a second, but before I got the chance to look back Max had me pinned to the lockers by my collar.

"Hey, easy!" I nervously chuckled, putting my hands up in defense.

"Why the fuck did you send all my teachers a message telling them they were 'useless pigs'?" Max growled as she held up one of the letters.

"That wasn't me!" I grinned, obviously lying.

I could hear my friends snickering, they think this 'war' is very funny and useless.

"Then who was it? The boogie man?" She snarled an inch away from my face.

"Maybe Dustin Henderson was finally tired of your bullshit!" I laughed.

"Oh you fu-" Max started until we heard a teacher yelling at us.

"Mayfield, get off him." Mr. Munson *boredly* yelled.

"We're just joking!" I told him as Max quickly got off me.

Mr. Munson walked up to us and looked down.

"You guys either need to cut the bullshit and date, or leave each other alone." He smiled and then patted my shoulder.

"We're sixteen, and you're a teacher! Can you even say that to us?" Max asked while scoffing.

"I can tell you what I want to, no one will believe you guys." He chuckled and then walked away.

No one says anything about this, but I'm pretty sure Mr. Munson is everyone's favourite teacher.

He cool, and relaxed, he's more like hanging out with a college student than a teacher.

"I would never date this piece of shit!" Max yelled towards Mr. Munson as he was waking away.

"Language!" He responded before he was out of sight.

"You better watch your back." Max turned to me and said through her teeth before walking away from me.

"You almost just got your ass beat by a girl shorter than you." El giggled as her arm was linked with Mike's, who was also laughing.

"I don't know why you guys find this 'war' so funny." I groaned as I started getting ready for my next class.

"Because it's so stupid, you had a crush on Max when you first met her and now you are trying to fail each other." Mike chuckled.

I rolled my eyes to him because of him talking about my crush on her.

I don't know if the crush ever really went away, but they will never know that.

"It's stupid, you guys should stop it. Do you really want each other to fail that bad?" Will asked.

"I don't even want to fail her that bad, she started this. I'm just making it a fair game!" I defended.

El scoffed and then the bell rung.

"Alright, I'm gone to sit next to her in Science now." I sighed as I started to walk away.

"Ask her on a date while you're at it!" Mike yelled out.

I ignored him and continued walking to class.
-
"Sit down!" I heard Mrs. Cunningham order.

I sat down at the table that me and Max shared.

I stared at her until she looked over.
"What?" She groaned.

I stayed silent for a second until I asked her,

"Do you think Mrs. Cunningham is a useless pig too?" I smiled.

She gave me a fake smile and then replied to me with,

"Do you think you're still going to go to Stanford?"

My face dropped and I sat up right in my chair.

"Max, what did you do?" I panicked.

"Nothing...yet." She chuckled.

Cunningham told the class to be quiet and started her lesson.

I leaned over to Max's ear,
"If you even fucking try to mess with Stanford for me, I will make your life a whole lot worse than a scholarship reject." I lowly growled.

Max gave me a bored look and then spoke,

"Yeah, and if you do that you'll be dead to me."

"I thought I already was?" I grinned as I turned around and tuned into the lesson.

I felt her eyes look at me, but then down at her work.

She's so obsessed with this silly game.

I hate her so much, maybe even so much I love her.

I've tried to make these feelings go away, but it's impossible.

There is something about Max Mayfield that will hook you.
