The van crunches to a halt, "Ohhhhh, the lake, the mariner." You say, tapping your forehead a few times, "I really should have made that link".

"Better luck next time, detective" Eddie tilts his head and grins at you.

You leave the van and walk down to the water's edge. The fading sun shimmering on the water made it look like satin.

"Wow, it looks amazing. I guess I've not taken the time to visit enough." You say, taking in the view.

"So you've been here before? " Eddie's voice echos out of a shed nearby, followed by some rustling, a few clangs and many curse words.

"Need any help in there?" You yell back

"No, everything is just absolutely perfect, dear." You hear him say through gritted teeth.

You cover your mouth to hide your laughter at his grumpiness.

"This shed has windows, you know!" You hear him shout.

You head into the shed. "I'm sorry. I find your little grumps amusing."

He quickly covers up something in a little boat, "Just in time", he says, extending a hand to help you into the boat.

As you carefully sit down, trying desperately not to slip, he thrusts a set of oars at you as he half clambers in himself, pushing the boat away with his foot, finally sitting next to you and taking one of the oars.

As the boat slides out onto the water, You try to give him the second oar too. He shakes his head, "If I'm working out, so are you " he laughs.

"Er...I've never rowed a boat before."

"Are you even from Earth? You live in a town with several huge bodies of water." He pinches the bridge of his nose but can't help but laugh, "Fine, I see your game. You just want to watch me do all the hard work whilst you soak in the view." He says, flexing his biceps at you, almost immediately losing one of the oars, resulting in some under-breath cursing.

He shakes his hair from his face, and it immediately gets stuck again, so you reach into your pockets and dig out a hair tie and reach around the back of his neck and tie his hair back for him, "Obviously temporary, until you finished all the hard work, Bruce" you smirk at him, and sit back down.

"Obviously!" He says, fluttering his eyelashes at you.

Once he's in a rhythm and you are out on the water proper, you say, "I know my parents can be a bit much, but they mean well, and they are generally lovely, honest."

"I guess they are alright", he jests.

He looks out onto the water and asks, "Seeing as you brought them up, I have to ask who is The Flooder? It sounds like either the best or worst thing you could be called. Definitely the title of the next Corroded Coffin EP" he starts laughing again.

"Oh, my mom analyses names, The Flooder was a guy called Trent," you say, avoiding Eddie's gaze.

"And this Trent was a friend of yours?" He pries

"Yeah." You just agree. Keep to the truth without overloading the conversation.

"Just a friend?" Eddie asks

"No," you say, looking down into the boat.

"Are they just a friend now?" He asks a little nervously.

"We don't talk anymore...or anything else for that matter."

"Wait...is this The Trent. Like Trent Baker?! Darling of the drama dept?!"

"Yeah, that's the one."

"And you dated him for...."
