Being strong was the only thing you knew

Being strong was the only thing you knew. Ignoring your pain so that you can aid others was what you were best at. Putting your own needs aside in order to help those that needed it was second nature. You constantly neglected yourself. The concept of self-care was completely, and utterly, foreign to you. Especially now, when you'd accidentally cut yourself while cooking with your boyfriend, Sam.

At first, you didn't mention it to him. When he questioned your hiss of pain, you said you stubbed your toe. But instead of taking your, he heard the pain in your voice, turning to see what the problem was. And when he saw the blood starting to drip down your arm, he immediately jumped into action.

"What happened, sugar?" he asked, grabbing a wad of paper towels, pressing it to your cut. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I-I had it under control," you said.

He raised a brow. "Yeah? By not doing anything about it at all?"

"I didn't want to worry you—"

"Sugar, I'm your boyfriend. It's my job to worry about you," he said. "If I didn't worry about you, then that would mean I didn't care. And trust me, sugar, I care about you an awful lot."

"But—"

"No buts!" he said. "Now, stop grumbling and just tell me where your medicine cabinet is so I can patch you up."

And as you led Sam to the bathroom where the first aid kit was, you began to think that, perhaps, just maybe, there could be some good in letting others take care of you.
