They both stood at the entrance of cave, it was closed off by fencing and warning signs of all sorts from stop signs to falling rocks and radioactive hazard signs. None of the signs were consistent, obviously someone didn't want others there. Carson reached forward with no hesitation pulling the latch. Not only was it unlocked, but it wasn't nearly as rusty as all the other doors they had tried to open before this, it opened like any other door might. Strange.
Adam grabbed onto the back of Carson's shirt gently making sure not to loose him as they ventured into the dark. Carson dug for his phone skewing his shoulder's awkwardly before pulling it out and turning on the flashlight. It shown darkness at first as both their eyes adjusted, though they could still see quite a bit from the front fencing area, but there was still a lot that they couldn't see. Slowly Carson walked deeper into the cave. The walls were so wide that the deeper they went, eventually the flashlight couldn't even reach the cave walls. Adam turned on his flashlight as well and separated from Carson. They wandered around quietly, both of their footsteps echoed crisply off the expansive cave walls.
Adam tried to find a wall walking away from Carson, after a little bit he found one and decided to follow along it, making sure to keep an eye on Carson. It was scary to leave Carson alone, not because he thought he couldn't handle himself but Carson was just so big and muscular he looked impervious, he even had a charming smile if he wanted. He was just so well put together, even emotionally.
Adam was very different, he was weak and scrawny, he broken down a lot and couldn't even stand up for himself, all he could do was take a beating. As he walked along the edge of the wall he let the light trail along the floor, checking over to make sure Carson was still ok.
They were both very silent since entering the cave, it was so echoey it felt almost sacrilegious to speak, but despite the distance they could still hear each other's foot steps, the cave was wide, Carson had found his way to the other side of the cave as well, his light was very tiny now, he seemed so tiny now, if he had to guess they were about 150 yards away.

Crack

Carson's distant light immediately turned towards Adam. He lifted up his light to look at the noise but was found a pair of eyes and a pale human face framed with long dark hair only a few feet from his face. It was only a flash of the face he saw for half a second before his voice cracked with a scream and he turned and ran. His stomach did flips and his heart felt like a flame had been stomped out on it. He swore if he wasn't screaming and running he would be able to hear it beat. His screams and pounding footsteps all echoed loud against the cave. He wasn't sure if Carson was following, he wasn't even sure if Carson existed in this moment. In his eyes and coursing through his blood was only fear, fear like nothing he had felt, fear like he had never known. It hurt, his heart hurt, his stomach and lungs hurt and he felt lightheaded.
He slammed against the fencing his hands were shaking so bad, his vision was blurry with both tears and stress. Carson slammed against the fence as well. They both made eye contact and Carson pulled the door open, shoving the now frozen-up Adam out the door, he slammed the door behind them both as Adam slammed against the railing, leaning over the edge, over the crashing water. Carson pulled him back a little by the shirt. They both caught their breath Carson catching his much faster.
Adam was right, you could hear his heartbeat. They could both however hear noises in the cave, weird loud wind noises, like a wind turbine turning. Every once in a while a pale somewhat human figure came into veiw, just barely into the sunlight. Only enough to recognize that there was something there.
Carson shoved Adam up the stairs, placing his hand on his waist from behind and just shoving him up the stairs, he slipped a few times. The waves were crashing hard, hard enough to spray up a little from under the stairs. Carson kept pushing, through the rusty doorway and spider infested labs and through the beaten up front door. He didn't say a word, neither of them did.
Adam was very dizzy, he was barely conscious, practically dragging himself despite the fact that he was getting pushed. All that dragging quickly lead to an accident. Adam tripped on his own feet and bloodied his knees up. Carson picked him up and held him tight against his chest. He didn't see what Adam saw, not really anyway. He was looking over when Adam shined the light on a creature and he definitely heard him scream, it was a scream he had never heard before, especially not from him, he had heard Adam scream before, scream, cry, beg, whine, he had heard it all, but not a scream like this. So he ran too.
He shoved him into the car as gently as possible, helping him take off his now wet hoodie. Adam was barely even awake. He replaced the hoodie with a big soft jacket he used for winter.
"Did you hit your head at all?" Caron asked to make sure he was in fact just passing out from the amount of adrenaline and not a concussion. Adam's head moved like a slow, loose, bobble head. He shook his head and Carson sighed a deep breath of relief. He dug through the hoodie pocket for the dab pen, retrieving it quickly, taking a hit before shoving it to Adam's mouth and pressing the button. Adam took a slow breath, coughing out a think cloud.
Carson's hands were shaky a little still so he sat in the car and tried to relax. He drove to the normal post of the cliff side and locked the car door. The only things that made him know Adam was still awake was the fact that his hands were still shaky. He took a few more hits from the pen and waited for them too hit before deciding to drive, he shouldn't be that shaky while driving. Adam 'woke up' more, sitting up, his shaking had also calmed down after a while, though his voice didn't, but that didn't matter because he didn't talk much anyway.
Adam zipped up the coat and pulled the hood on while pulling the collar of the hoodie up over his nose. Carson's hoodie was big on him, he let the sleeves fall over his fingertips as he relaxed. He looked over at Carson and started to feel nervous while observing him. His knuckles were white while griping the steering wheel, and he was breathing heavily, still trying to process what happened. This was probably his first time feeling so close to death or even feeling so scared. Carson started up the car and took a deep breath, holding it a little before letting out a deep sigh.
The car lurched forward gently and crept out of its parking spot, through the empty parking lot.
Adam never quite got to observe Carson's features before. His shoulders were a little wet, but also freckled a bit. He had pale green eyes. In this lighting his hair was definitely a light strawberry blonde. His knuckles were still white against the steering wheel but he was rather tan overall. He was toned, very toned, probably from a place of being self conscious. He was pretty big when he was a kid. Maybe he does it for his girlfriend. He doesn't ever really talk about her. He had a grey tank top today that was loose on him and weirdly enough he had shaved arms and legs, even his armpits were shaved. Maybe it was a sensory thing.
Carson glanced over at him, catching him staring. He turned away quickly, embarrassed, his face got a little warm. He pulled up his the neck of the jacket again to cover his nose. It smelled like Carson inside the jacket, Carson and ocean water.
