The six year old girl and her twin brother gloomily trudged through the park, after the little girls beating.
It had been going on for a few months now, ever since her step-brother and step-mother died, in that awful car accident, on their way back from picking the twins up from kindergarten.
Marcus had drilled into their heads that it was their fault and after a few weeks of saying it, after every punch, slap, whip, and cut, they believed it.
The twins tried to cheer each other up, they tried to make their few hours out of the house worthwhile.
Theo, making funny faces, and Luna, pointing out different birds and half-heartedly telling her twin about them.
They only got so far around the park before Luna fell down, after bumping into something- or rather somebody.
Letting out a wince at the pain in her ribs, after the collision, she looked up through her lashes to find a boy, probably more than double her age, rushing to help her up.
Tears streamed down the girl's face, making guilt swarm in the elder boy's stomach and an unconscious frown to tug at his lips.
For some reason, he felt automatically protective of the young girl.
"I'm sorry little one, I didn't see you there. Are you hurt?" He spoke, in a soft, caring tone, crouching down so he was at her level.
Luna nodded, rubbing at her eye with her fist, making the boy internally coo at her.
