Alistair leaped out of his bed, quickly snatching any clothes in his grasp. He put on his cargo pants and a white button-up tee shirt, and started putting all of his school necessities into his satchel. Clearly Alistair was making quite a racket, because his mother once again called up to him.
"Alistair, are you alright up there?" Alice yelled.
"I'm fine mom! I'm just looking for my - pencil!"
He got whatever he could think of into his bag, and then raced into the bathroom. He brushed his teeth and washed his face, taking care to put sunscreen on his porcelain skin. Everything was being done out of order this morning, but Alistair didn't have a choice. He debated for less than a second on combing his golden lockes, but decided against it when he looked down at his pocket watch.
His mother looked up at the wooden staircase to an odd sight. Her son racing down the stairs, his hair a mess, his clothes wrinkled, and things falling out of the satchel that was barely hanging on to his shoulder. Alistair sat down and began downing his scones and jam, while his mother tried to hide her disgust.
"You'd better get on your way, honey. Have fun at school!"
"Thanks, I guess. I'll see you after school," Alistair mumbled with a half smile.
Alistair headed for the door when he heard the argueing again.
"Just be friendly, then we can both get what we want," the voice said.
Alistair tried to be quiet so that he could hear what they were saying, but when his mom called out one last goodbye, the argueing once again stopped and he could hear the footsteps scattering away. With a sigh, Alistair began his journey to school.
