All that could be heard from the classroom was screaming and the sound of water coming their way. Alistair immediately sprang into action, dashing towards the door. He attempted to open it, but it was locked. They all turned away from Alistair to look at Professor Barbeau, hoping that he would let them out. However, he sat on the floor, glaring into their souls as if he was trying to say, "Sit back down."

They all looked up, the wave getting closer. They all looked more carefully to see the water wasn't perfectly clear; it was filled with sharks. The screaming intensified. All that Alistair could think about was how much 8th grade differed from 7th, and how Dennis was rustling near the backpack area. Alistair watched as he pulled out a life jacket from his book bag and began desperately trying to get it around his plump body. Professor Barbeau looked at him, and the look on his face seemed even angrier than before.

"We are meant to be catching sharks, children! Not trying to survive the waters!"

Everyones panicking was cut short when the wave engulfed them all in water. Alistair looked around, and because of the amount of times he had fallen off The Wonder, he knew exactly what to do. He came face to face with a large shark, and when the stern eye-contact was made, the shark allowed Alistair to get on its back. Alistair guided the shark to the surface, allowing him to catch his breath and search for the others.

Half the students had watched what Alistair had done (knowing that he would be skilled in this situation) and all arrived at the top. The other half however, was trying their best to swim away from the sharks and toward the surface. He looked at all of the people that had arrived on the surface of the wave, and none of them were his friends. As Alistair was getting ready to dive down, Professor Barbeau gave him a look that said, "don't even think about it."

Alistair dived down anyway.
