Chap 14

It took me 3 minutes to take in what he just said.

Anger boiled through me.

"What do you mean?"
" uh, I meant that who have you come with to the prom?"
"What a stupid question! You only asked me to the prom!" I screamed at him. What was wrong with him? The people around us were looking at us.
" Elizabeth, I don't know what's wrong. I did not ask you to the prom." He gave me a worried look but did not miss on giving me a light smirk.
"Yeah!" Melissa chimed in, "He asked me to the prom! Oh god now look!you have ruined the fun!"
" I have ruined your fun? More like you ruined mine!"
"Oh I did? Then do one thing, be the nerdy baby you are and go cry in your room!"
"You're underestimating me" she did not know who I was.
"Oh really? Face it, you are a baby. Now go and cry and leave me in peace!" she screamed. She turned to Daniel, "Baby tell her to go!"
Daniel faced towards me,"Please leave us in peace"
My anger had grown ten times. I had to leave before I lost control and started verbally abusing her. I walked up to her and slapped her right across her face.

Hard

She was shocked and raised her hand to slap me back but I defended it. I walked away. She started screaming at me and insulting me but I just walked. Once I was out of the hall, I went to the lawn and sat on the bench facing the lake.
I had to calm my anger. Melissa was planning revenge all these days. Venessa was right, she can do anything.

How did I even fall for Daniel?

He was involved with Melissa all this while!

I sat there, thinking, calming my anger and processing what just happened.
"Whats wrong Elizabeth?"
James walked up and sat beside me on my bench.
" Nothing. Why are you here?"
" I was dancing with Kendal and noticed a group being formed in the corner. Then I saw you walking out of it so I came to check. Is everything alright?"
I sighed, " Daniel was involved with Melissa all this while"
"What?" He was shocked. He knew everything about me and my fights with Melissa. He was the only one who did know.
I nodded. " It was a plan. Daniel was suppose to ask me out and then go with Melissa to the prom."
"That asshole. Don't worry. Why spoil your night because of them?"
" Its already spoiled James." I sighed, "I should have known. Why would a guy like Daniel ask a girl like me to the prom in the first place?"
" I dont see anything wrong in that"
"I mean, Daniel is popular. I'm not. I'm new, I don't bother to wear skirts or work on my hair or face."
" Look Elizabeth, you are amazing the way you are. I know you. Daniel is just blind enough not to see it. If you were'nt good, I wouldn't have been best friends with you, would I?"
" You're wrong James. You don't know me. Trust me, you dont want to"
"Elizabeth you have to speak. If you dont talk about it, how will I know?"
" You dont have to. You won't like it"
"I will. Its pointless hiding from us. Someday, we will know, so why not now?"
I sighed, "You really wanna hear about my past?"
" I won't judge you"
"Okay" I took a deep breath and started telling him my story. I told him about my past in Dark London. Tears formed in my eyes as I spoke, the worst of my memories started flooding into my mind and soon came out as words.
James did not say anything. He did not ask any questions. He just listened. He held me tight and let me put my head on his shoulder. I spoke out my life and cried my heart out. All the pain building inside me since the past was let out. I finished and turned to face him.
" Thank you for bearing me"
" You need someone. I am there. I will always be your best friend."
I smiled, "Promise?"
"Promise." he gave me a soft smile. It felt kiddish but it felt real. I felt nice with him. I felt like I finally had a friend. Someone I could trust and share my feelings with.
He hugged me and I hugged him back.
" I will always be there" he consoled me, "To wipe away your tears."
"Thank you James"
" A friend in need, is a friend indeed. But that doesn't mean that I wont call you pizza girl"
I chuckled and hugged him resting my head on his shoulder.
I had found someone.

I had found a friend.

I had found friendship.

That would never end...

By the way, for those who think that Elizabeth falls in love with James, its not true. They are best friends. Thats all.
