Chap 15

I walked into school and went to the cafeteria. Venessa and Kendal were there. I walked up to them and sat.
"Hey guys" I said.
"Elizabeth! Where were you yesterday?" Venessa asked me, concern filling her voice.
"I-I-I had gone to the lawn"
"What? Why?"
I sighed, "Daniel and Melissa had gone to the prom together."
"What?" both of them were shocked.
"But Daniel was suppose to go with you!" Kendal spoke up.
" I know. It was all Melissa's plan. She had asked Daniel to ask me but then to go with her on the real day."
"That bitch!"
"I got furious when I came to know that. I slapped her and went to the lawn."
"Wait and watch! Even I am going to slap her." Venessa said.
They both hugged me and comforted me. Though I didn't need it, I pretended like I needed it so they didn't feel bad.
"Anyways, drop it. How was your night Venessa?"
Her face lit up, " I went with Andrew to his place and we went second base."
"What?" Kendal and I half screamed.
"Yeah" she blushed.
"Thats just

amazing!" I said. I was so happy for her.
"Yeah. What about you Kendal?" said Venessa.
"I, uh, I was dancing with James but then he left without telling me any reason. I got frustrated and danced with the others but later, around 11:00, he came and proposed to me."
I was shocked and guilty. I was the reason James left. " And, what did you say?"
"Umm, I said I would think about it and tell him the answer today."
"What are you waiting for? Say yes!" Venessa spoke up.
"Yeah, I will."
I high fived(if thats even a word) Venessa and continued talking with them about last night.
I left them since I had to go to take my books from the locker.
" Well well, let's see who we have here! The nerdy baby!" Melissa and her gang stood in front of me.
"Atleast I'm grown enough to handle myself and not hang around clinging to a group of girls to protect myself."
" So my plan did work! Affected you alot last night, am I right?" she said ignoring my comment.
" Which plan?"
" My plan of ruining your night!"
" Actually, I enjoyed alot later that night with my friends. We even danced to How We Party. But you didn't. How were you feeling when everybody saw how I slapped you and how you couldn't slap me back?"
She glared at me. "I still have revenge to take on that"
"Please do and if I hit you worse, its not my fault." I gestured towards the bruise on her left cheek where I slapped her last night. She puffed her cheeks and turned to talk with the other girls. That's all she could really do. I went to my locker, grabbed my books and left for class.

"Elizabeth please?" Hailey said. I was not giving her the tv remote.
"Hailey let me watch my match"
"Please! You can record your match!"
"You can record your cartoon"
"Aahaa! Elizabeth!" She gave me her puppy eyes, "Please?"
I sighed and put my match on recording. Who could resist those eyes? I passed her the remote."There you go"
She squealed and I chuckled.
"Thank you soooooooo much!"
"Anytime." I left the room and went up to my room.
My phone started ringing.
"Hello?"
"E-Elyssa!"
"Cass?"
"P-Please h-help me!" her voice was quavering.
"Cass what's wrong?"
"Please come! I need you!"
"I'm coming! but what is it?"
"It's

Hansel!"

"Wait. I'll be there in 5 minutes."
I hung up and ran to my bike. I started the engine and drove of at full speed.

I pulled up outside Cass's apartment and went in. She was sitting on her bed, crying.
"Cass!" I ran to her and hugged her.
"E-Elyssa! help me!"
"What's wrong?"
"H-Hansel is scaring me!" she broke down.
"What did he say?"
"H-He said that-that he will d-do the same to m-me!"
"The same?"
She kept on crying. I held her, "shhshh, everything will be okay, I'm here"
We stayed like that for half an hour.
Once she was done crying, I handed her a tissue paper from her kitchen and she wiped her eyes.
"Tell me what happened" I said.
"You don't know the entire story."
" Im here to listen. All day"
she took a deep breath and started, "When we first came here, I was complete innocent"
It was true. Cass had an elder sister Chloe. They were each other's family.
Their parents had abandoned them. "Continue" I said.
"Chloe loved me alot. She took care of me.We told each other our secrets, everything. But there was a secret she did not tell me. She had a boyfriend. They acted as friends in front of me but I knew what happened between them behind my back. They stayed like that for a while. The boyfriend even got his younger brother to play with me. I even started liking his younger brother. I was happy but after a few months, Chloe started fighting with him. They had frequent arguments. Sometimes, he used to hit her. I tried to help her through her sadness but she would'nt let me come close. She would never talk to me about it or show any sign of her torture. At some point, their fighting grew so much that the boyfriend stopped getting his younger brother. Chloe still bared him. One night, I was sleeping and Chloe was in her room with him, when I heard a defeaning scream." Cass paused, closed her eyes, opened them and continued, " I ran to Chloe's room and found her on her bed, a pool of blood staining the sheets. The boyfriend was not their. A knife had been driven through Chloe's stomach. I ran to her and tried waking her up. She lay there, lifeless." Cass started crying. I was shocked. I never knew this part of her life. I hugged her tightly, "What happened of the boyfriend?"
"I never saw him again. Until last week, when Damien introduced us to Hansel." I froze.

That's why Cass was terrified of him.

"Shhshh, it's ok. I'm here"
"I-I was just 12 years old. Left alone with no money."
"I understand Cass. It must have been so hard for you." I patted her back and stroked her hair, comforting her.
"Now Hansel is back and has told me that he will do the same to me"
"He won't Cass. He won't"
She hugged me tightly, "I don't want to die Elyssa"
"You won't.I won't let that happen." I stroked her hair and a solution instantly came to me, "Why don't you come and live with me?"
"I-I cant. I-I have to stay here. I promised my sister. She said that she doesn't want me to go to the other side of London."
"It's okay. Cass, don't be scared. You are not an ordinary girl.You are strong. You live in Dark London. You murder people. How can you be scared?"

She paused

"You're right. I shouldn't be." Realisation hitting her. I smiled at her and she returned it, "Can you stay over here for the night?"
"Sure" I smiled at her.

After that, I asked her to freshen up and made a light soup for her. We both had it and lay on her bed. We talked abit and were sleepy so decided to sleep. I lay there, quietly, thinking about the evening.
"Elyssa?" Cass whispered.
"Hmm?"
"You're right. I shouldn't be afraid"
I smiled at her and drifted of to sleep...
