I watch my mom stumble her way into the living room. I help her sit down. "What's wrong now Maddyson?"
I shake my head, "No, you don't get to treat me like a dog now. I won't do it anymore, do you understand?"
She looked at me and laughed, "Maddy, I can do whatever and say whatever I want to you, you're my daughter. You need me Maddy, you know it."
I slap her hard, "Fuck you mom! I never needed you, you needed me. You still need me. Without me, you know where you'd be?" I pause waiting for a response that I never got, "Hm mom? You'd be dead! Without me you'd be dead. So really, if anyone gets to treat anyone like a dog, it's me treating you like one. You have disrespected me and ridiculed me my whole goddamn life! Mom, I'm graduating this fucking year! You never told me why I have such a traumatic childhood, why I can't remember much. I assume it's because you never wanted me to realize how weak you are. You're worthless and you're weak. So, you tell me what's going the fuck on, or I'm moving out."
She looks me dead in the eyes, "You can't leave!"I shake my head, "No, you're right. But you can, and you will unless I get the full truth."
She laughed, "About what? Your father being a low life that understood nothing? Maddy, if you go searching for him now, you'll find an empty grave."
I shake my head, "Mom, you have 5 seconds."
She puts her hands up, "Okay okay, you want to know who your dad is? Why you're the way you are? I'll let you know."
I nodded, "So tell me the truth mom, that's all I want."
She cleared her throat, "When I was 19, I was stupid. I got involved in something that I grew to regret. I needed cash for my family, your grandparents... saying they were poor was an understatement. Anyway, I heard about a project going on in Hawkins, a project to expand the mind. I joined at the very end, so after it was called off, I still continued. I got involved with someone that I shouldn't have."
I look at her, "My father?"
She smiles, "Yes, your father," She cleared her throat before continuing, "Your father was a very beautiful gentle soul. Your father was different though, he was connected to things differently. You see Maddy, your dad's name was Peter-," I cut her off.
"Was? Was mom?" I start to tear up.
She starts to tear up and grabs my hand, "I told you baby, an empty grave. I got involved with Peter and I never understood what attracted me so badly. Whether it was his charming personality, his beautiful smile, or his care for everyone. I couldn't quite understand it. Him and I started to become more and more involved. I wasn't on birth control and we used no contraceptives. Your dad, he used me. He used me for a man of higher power. I gave birth to you, and I was told you were gone. For 5 years I searched for you, I knew what was true and you weren't gone. I hurt myself one night on purpose. Your father promised to help me, help you. I laid in the bed and saw your father walk in with the most beautiful of babies. Your father gave me one last gift before he was gone. Maddy, I told you to never go searching."
I looked at my wrist, "This, what is this?"She looked down as I watched tears fall, "You won't believe me."
I nod, "Yes I will mom."She sighs before continuing, "The man running the experiment on me, he also did them on children. Special children. He favored you for a while because yours was in your genetics."
I look at her confused, "Special? Mom, I'm so confused."
"Baby," She says, "Your number was 009. You have Telepathy and Telekinesis."
I start to laugh, "Mom, I know I don't."
She looks at me, "I told you. If your father ever tries to contact you, please, do me a favor and do not let him talk to you. He is news."
I shook my head, "I think the drugs have got to you."
I grab a pair of shorts and keep on Eddie's shirt. I smile looking at it. I pulled it up, smelling it, which smelled like straight cologne, weed and cigarettes. I walk out in my living room and see my mom laying on the couch high as shit. I called Eddie's house hoping he would pick up. "Hello?" I heard a deep voice saying.
"Hello, is Eddie home?" I ask, assuming his uncle was picking up.
"No, I'm sorry. He said he was meeting someone behind the school I believe. If you want I can give him a message," He said, not seeming interested in conversing anymore.
"No, that's fine. If you could just let him know I called that would be cool."
He said mhm and hung up. I didn't have my license but I knew how to drive, so I took a good look at my passed out mother, grabbed her keys and went off.
