Something very large and very alive was in the bunker with us. We paused to gather ourselves. We checked our gear and weapons and made sure we were set to go. I motioned for two to take the front and two to take the back. If something was alive in here, there was a chance it was alone. This bunker was very old and yet seemed to be very operational. I moved forward with my team towards the source of the noise. We approached a large steel door that was reinforced. The banging sound was much louder now. Whatever it was, it was behind this door and it was trying to escape. The door did seem to have signs of prolonged stress and damage. If whatever was here kept at it, it would soon break down the door. Obviously this would be very bad for the group. I ordered my team to secure the door and the rest to explore the bunker as fast as possible and to grab whatever they deemed beneficial to the group. I was prepared for a fight and dash if need be.
It would appear that I would have to fight. The door holding the creature soon broke and the creature began to reveal itself. It was quadrupedal and very stocky. It stared at us. It seemed briefly confused by our presence here. It was red and it seemed covered in weird bubble shaped sacs. A gas creature or mutation perhaps? I ordered my team to put on their masks fast. I had pulled a grenade already and it was releasing its own gas slowly. It was designed to target mutants like what we are facing and pacify them. It had varying effects and took longer for some. This creature was barely affected but enough to prevent it raging and murdering us immediately. We had maybe a few minutes, but it was eyeing us down. It was going to attack. It was snarling and growling at us. It was like a giant dog mixed with a wolf and something else. A chimera perhaps. It had spikes and quills on its spine. It attacked, and spikes from it went everywhere. We shielded ourselves as best we could. Then opened fire. The sacs soon burst and yellow gas started to fill the place. I ordered an immediate evacuation. The gas seemed to melt and burn what it was touching. My team took damage and were running out of the bunker as fast they could. Our gear was melting and we were suffering minor burns. Fortunately we carried gear for such things. We started to release canisters of foam that is designed to neutralize acids and gases. One of my team however failed to release theirs fast enough and he collapsed on the ground writhing in agony. We swarmed him and tried our best to put out the gas.
He had been too slow on putting on his mask and his gas mask seemed to just melt. It stuck to him and it led to him suffocating and melting. He soon died. Our attempts to help him didn't work. This was very concerning. Just what was going on here? Why would they make such a thing here and what was the purpose? We would begin our search to figure this out once the gas was cleared and we disposed of our friend via incineration.
