I was sitting besides my bed, hugging my knees. I sighed and buried my head on my knees. I wanted the Earth to open and swallow me whole.
"I'm so proud of you, chérie. I'm glad you made the right choice." My mother's words echoed in my head.
It was the first time I've seen her look at me with a genuine smile. Her eyes wrinkling with happiness. My hands were still trembling but I had made a choice.
I signed.
I heard a knock on the main door and lifted my head up. I stood up and walked towards the stairs. I saw Olga open the door as I made my way downstairs.
"Oh, look at you, you're so tall and handsome." Olga exclaimed with happiness when she saw who it was.
"And you're as beautiful as always, Olga." I immediately recognized the French accent and the deep tone of voice.
"You're making me blush, Pierre, come in." Olga stepped aside with a smile lighting up her face.
"Pierre, what are you doing here?" I asked walking towards him.
"Glad to see you too, Elo." He took off his shades and I chuckled softly.
I saw he had a white box with silver details in his hands.
"What's that?" I asked curious and he raised his eyebrows.
"That's why I'm here. Charles sent me. He wanted to give you a little surprise." He tapped the box with his finger and a smile immediately appeared on my face.
He handed me the box and I put it on the table to open it. I carefully lifted the top lid and there was silver tissue paper with a letter on top.
"Roses are red
You don't need to impress
But you sure deserve this beautiful dressWith love,
Charles"I smiled at the cheesy poem. He wasn't the kind of guy to write that for anyone. But I knew I wasn't "anyone".
I moved the tissue paper and finally felt a piece of cloth. I grabbed it and saw a beautiful white dress.
I looked at it mesmerized. Olga put her hands on her mouth and gasped.
"Oh, mon Dieu. It's beautiful. You'll look like a princess." Olga smiled and put her hands on her chest.
"She's already a princess. The dress will only make you look even more beautiful." Pierre complimented me and I smiled at him.
"Well, thank you. But what is it for?" I asked tilting my head.
"We're throwing a little goodbye party." Pierre replied and my heart dropped at the word "goodbye".
Was it already time for them to leave?
"Everyone will be there. And I'll bring champagne." He winked and I chuckled.
"Count me in."
[...]
I was getting ready. The dress fitted perfectly. Olga was helping me do my hair. She carefully brushed my hair, untangling it.
I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled. I liked how I looked for once.
"It's nice seeing you smile at your reflection." Olga commented smiling genuinely.
"I like how I look." I replied smiling.
I heard footsteps and my mother walked in. Her heels echoing with every step.
