"She doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do" Abe snapped, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Why don't you want to kiss him Micaya?" Sammy said loudly.
"Just shut up Sammy" Abe said sternly.
"Don't tell me to shut up Abraham. You don't want her to kiss him because you want her to kiss you" Sammy said sharply.
Both of us were stunned in silence. So she did see.
"Go on, deny it" she looked from Abe to me. I looked at Carlos, who looked hurt.
"You've been hooking up with my sister?!" Jake was the angriest, pushing Abe's shoulder harshly.
"Jake-" he started.
"How long has this been going on?" He grabbed Abe's shirt collar. "How long?"
"Not long. I wanted to tell you" Abe tried to explain.
"You think I'd let you be with my sister, knowing your track record? I know how many girls you've been with" Jake spat. "Stay away from her".
"You can't do that" I tried to reason with Jake.
"Mic, if you knew everything I do, you wouldn't want to be with him, trust me." He let Abe go and sauntered back into the house, Stacey in tow.
"Thanks Sammy" I glared at her.
"You think I was going to let you steal my guy and get away with it? I thought we were friends?" She looked at me like I was poo on her shoe.
"It wasn't like that, it just happened".
"Whatever, I'm done here. You coming Carlos?"
Carlos nodded and followed her out.
I suddenly became aware that our entire family had just watched what went down. Both our mom's were staring at us disapprovingly.
"So, this means you love Abe not Carlos?" Noah piped up, joining us at my side.
"Maybe" I said, smiling down at him. "We need to talk" I said to Abe and he nodded, leading me to the beach.
"Can I start?" He asked.
"Okay..."
"I didn't tell Jake the whole truth. He was getting on my back about not getting with any girls, so I exaggerated a little."
"How much is a little?" I pressed.
"I slept with two girls at college. One was a one night stand, the other I dated for a little while and she broke up with me because I moaned your name".
I burst out laughing. "You're joking right?"
He shook his head. "I wish I was. We got to the really good part and I was like 'mmmm Micaya'. I swear she dried up right on the spot".
"You have issues"
"My only issue is that I'm in love with you" he admitted.
"I guess that's a good kind of issue" I said, kissing him slowly. "You need to make it up with Jake, just tell him the truth".
"It's going to be embarrassing telling him I'm not a man whore".
"It's for the best, I think he'll be as glad as I am that you're not" I smiled at him.
"You're so perfect and innocent, he won't want me to touch you".
"I'm not that perfect, and I'm not innocent either" I admitted.
"Wait what? You're not a virgin?"
I shook my head.
"Oh" he didn't look upset, just surprised. "Prom?" He asked.
I nodded and cleared my throat.
"You ready to go back?" I asked.
"Yeah, I need to apologise to my mom. Her eyes burnt a hole my face".
"Me too".
We walked back to the BBQ hand in hand, trying to avoid eye contact with everyone apart from our parents.
"Mom-" Abe started.
"It's about time" Mrs Jenkin's cut him off.
"Wait, what?" Abe said, laughing.
"We have seen the way you two look at each other for years, I don't get why Jake is so surprised".
"He doesn't see anything Amaya, you know that" my mum sipped her wine and laughed. "But this does mean we need some new house rules".
I opened my mouth to protest but she carried on. "You're 18 now, so I can't tell you that you can't share a room, but if you must, please use the pool house. I'm not ready to think about you having sex under my roof".
"Since when did you become cool mom?" I joked, kissing her softly on the cheek.
"It's the wine" she's said, squeezing me.
"Do you wanna go to the pool house now then?" Abe suggested, cheekily.
"ABE!" We all said in sync.
"I'm joking... too soon?"
"Way too soon." His mom replied. "You best go and find Jake".
"Give him this" I handed him a burger. "You know the best way to his heart..."
He nodded and disappeared into the house.
