"Who's this?" Mum asked, it was like de ja vu.
"My girlfriend, Mina"
"How long have you been together?" She asked.
"3 months" he admitted.
"Excuse me" Mina said quickly, running to towards the bathroom.
"Hang on a minute!" I had a lightbulb moment. "You didn't...she's not..."
Mum had cottoned on too.
"Jacob Andreas Stevens, do not tell me that girl is pregnant" mum spoke quietly but harshly.
Jake started to sweat.
"It was an accident" he said, holding his hands up.
"Did we not teach you anything about safe sex? Oh my goodness, I need to lie down" Mum looked like she was going to faint so I guided her to the sofa and fanned her with a magazine from a nearby table.
Dad came in and saw Mum on the couch. "What happened?" He looked from Mum and me, to Jake and back. "Who's this?" He asked as Mina came out of the bathroom.
I rolled my eyes this time.
"Jake's pregnant girlfriend Mina" I said, a little too gleefully.
"Pregnant?!" Dad shook his head. "Jacob Andreas Stevens-"
I cut him off "Mum already did that part".
Dad thought for a moment before extending his hand to Mina.
"Welcome to the family Mina. I'm Andreas".
She nervously shook it. "Thanks for letting me into your home".
"You're welcome" he said, even though we all knew she wasn't quite invited.
"Bugsy not telling Grandma" I said as we waited outside her house on Christmas Day. "She'll slap me because I'm the one who told her".
"She'll slap me for doing it" Jake seconded.
"She'll slap me for giving birth to you" Mum sighed as Grandma opened the door.
"Mija" she said, addressing me first, kissing my cheek. "Mijo" she said to Jake.
"Mina is pregnant" Jake said quickly and as predicted, she slapped him. "Grandma!" He cried, rubbing at his cheek.
"I am too young to be a great Grandmother, what were you thinking Jacob?!" She was infuriated.
"I wasn't thinking, my d-"
"Jacob!" Dad interrupted.
"Sorry. I'm sorry Grandma" Jake apologised.
Grandma looked Mina up and down for a few seconds, then broke into a smile.
"She's beautiful, this baby will be beautiful".
"You know I'm gonna start acting differently now that I'm an uncle" Abe said when we returned back to LA.
"You're not an uncle. You're not blood related" I pointed out.
"Yeah but when I marry you I will be" he smiled at me.
"Hold your horses" I said "Who said anything about marriage? I'm 19".
"I already know I want to spend the rest of my life with you" he shrugged and went back to his video game.
