A teenager girl with a long brown hair and a pair of cerise magenta sighed as she walking away from the big mansion, her home. It's her first day in 2nd grade of middle school, but she felt her grandfather will weep again like last year. Luckily for her, the teenage girl didn't tell him about it. So, she can go to school in peace - Or it's not what it seems.
"Momiji! Please don't go to school and stay with Grandpa!"
When she heard someone calling her name, the teenager's steps slowed down.
See? This is why I kept it from him.
An old man quickly went after her. Seeing how much her grandfather wanted to see her, Momiji completely gave in as she turned around as she faced him with an idea.
I guess I have to entertain him with a promise for our next weekend.
"Good morning, grandfather. "How can I help you?" Momiji smiled at her grandfather and asked him politely, "Or is there any excuse why I shouldn't go to school today?"
Her grandfather flinched at her last question, as if he didn't realize she was paying attention to his actions these days. The brunette sighed at the previous head of Oedo's household. She didn't think her grandfather would be so doting to his only granddaughter after his retirement.
"My granddaughter has been cold toward me lately..."
Her grandfather whimpered while playing with his fingers, making the brunette sighed more. Sure, she loves her grandfather but this is too much for her. She even needed to dealt his whining to travel together. As a good granddaughter, she willingly fulfilled his wishes and enjoyed her winter holiday with travelling around the world – Yet, that wasn't enough for him.
After thinking for a while, the magenta eyes softened.
"Grandfather, do you want to play with me next weekend?" she put out her smartphone and checked her schedule, "I don't think I have any plans for those days."
His eyes sparkled with excitement, "That's a good idea, my granddaughter!"
"I'm glad you're happy with it, grandfather."
After getting his response, her hand speedily made a reminder in her calendar. When she finished and put her smartphone back to her pocket, Momiji then approached her grandfather and hugged him.
"I wanted to spend time more with you, but I have to go now. Don't forget to take care of yourself, grandfather."
"You too, my granddaughter." Her grandfather hugged her back, "Please, be careful on the way."
After saying goodbye to her grandfather, Momiji walked quickly, as she had promised her two best friends to walk with them in the morning. She arrived at the conjunction and saw one of her best friends already there. Momiji waved for her attention, and she was relieved that her best friend wasn't mad at her when she waved back.
"Good morning, Kyou."
"Good morning to you too," Mikyou replied while typing on her phone.
Momiji stared at her with an unamused look and asked, "Has Mina not arrived yet?"
"Nope, she said that she would run and get a shortcut."
She looked at her watch and said, "We still have time. "Let's wait for her here then."
Mikyou nodded and put her phone back in her pocket. The raven-haired girl's really a good friend, which has led Momiji to trust her since their childhood. Both of them met at the dojo when Momiji needed to learn martial arts as her parents wanted to and the dojo owner was Mikyou's grandfather. Momiji still looked back on how fast they got along and became a partner for each other.
Nowadays, she is unable to attend the dojo due to recent after-school activities but they still have a strong relationship with her sparring partner. Even though the student council activities are easy for her, her heart missed how fun her Master taught her the important part of martial skill that she needed to remember.
Maybe someday, I will visit the dojo again-
"Sorry for waiting! Oh my gosh, that's a good long run, but I never want to do that again!"
The brunette with red ribbon's thought went puff. Both of the girls then looked at the source of the voice. A girl with blonde hair and blue eyes rested her hand on the wall while taking a break from running. Momiji wanted to scold her, but she relaxed again when Mikyou's hand stopped her from saying anything.
"Hello, Mina. Do you have any idea why you are late?" Mikyou asked with a strong gaze, "You have five minutes to explain it."
"It's simple," the blonde girl huffed as she straightened her back, "my younger sister accused me of stealing her money again, which I never did."
Mina rubbed her hands together, as if she were concealing something from her best friends. "I wish I could convince my parents, but they only want to hear her lies."
"You did your best," Mikyou said while patting Mina's head, "we can continue this on our way."
Mina shyly nodded as she didn't feel the pain anymore. Mikyou's words made her comfortable again. Then, someone picked up her hand and cleaned her bruises with water.
The owner of clear blue eyes beamed, "Thank you, Momi."
Momiji only smiled warmly while putting a band-aid on her hand. The blonde girl felt lucky that her best friends understand her. Even though she joined their circle only last year, it is the safest place for her. She couldn't be more grateful to them because this friendship of theirs was everything to her.
"We have to leave right now," Mikyou said, pointing to her watch, "or we'll be late on our first day."
The blonde panicked, "Oh shoot! I don't want to be late for the class!"
"It's still our first day though, I wonder if the teachers will forgive us?" the brunette said nonchalantly.
Both of green eyes and blue eyes instantly stared at her.
"Momiji, I thought you were an honour student?" Mikyou teased her.
"Then," The magenta eyes threatened them with a smile, "don't make me late or I will drop that title for you two."
Mina faked her gasp, "our Momi has gone bad. Is this the end of the world?"
"Of course not, because this is not the Momi we know." The green eyed shook her head while crossing her arms.
"Fuuh... Then, we safe now because the real one is already at school."
The brunette only chuckled, seeing her best friends fooling around.
"You two, is that what both of you think of me?" Momiji raised one of her eyebrows.
Both of the girls looked at each other before they smiled simultaneously, "No, because you'll be late just like us."
Then, they ran away from their best friend who still standing obliviously before she connected the dots and chased them while grinning.
"Hey! Don't leave me, Kyou! Mina!"
When she finallycaught up with her best-friends, they laughed and walked together toward theirschool. Momiji loved how the weather was perfect for their first day as sakurablossom's petals surrounded their path. She even wished that their day wouldalways like this. Unbeknownst of them, a white feather fell gracefully behindthem like a snowflake in winter – a sign of their life being changed by thenature.
