The next day was calm. Gregory and Freddy had breakfast uninterrupted and he helped out in the daycare again. Sun had the wonderful announcement that Moon loved their new name and thanked Gregory profusely, also adding on an apology note for scaring him.

It was much better than having to confront it in person today. Gregory The kids still thought that Moon was scary, and no amount of convincing from Sun could prove to them that Moon had gotten better.

"They'll come around eventually! And then we can all have fun, fun, fun together!" Sun tried to console themselves while walking around on their hands, waiting for Freddy to pick Gregory up.

"Probably."

"Yep! Just gotta stay positive!"

Freddy came over a few minutes later with Vanessa in tow.

"Ms. Abernathey! It's no good to see you!"

"Hey, Sun. That's your name now, right?"

"Yep, yep, yep!"

"Come on, Superstar! We need to talk with Offi-," Vanessa shot him a look. "Vanessa."

"About what?"

"Just some technical stuff," Vanessa said, handing him a Tupperware container. "It's hamburger helper tonight." Sweet!

Sun let them into a party room and Gregory started eating while Vanessa texted someone. Probably Sammy. He was about halfway through his meal when Vanessa put the phone down.

"We need to talk."

"'Bout what?"

"Eww don't talk with your mouth full kid." Gregory swallowed and gave Vanessa his best I-definitely-didn't-do-that-on-purpose look. "Okay. My biggest concern right now is about what we're going to do tomorrow night."

"What's happening tomorrow?"

"It's Wednesday, the pizzaplex is closed Wednesdays. I also don't work Wednesday or Friday, and I swap shifts every other Sunday. How are we going to get you dinner? And will you be okay with there being a different night guard? You'd have to stay hidden. You can always stay at my place if you want but...." All of a sudden he lost his appetite and stopped paying attention. Having to run and hide again... That sounded like hell.

But at the same time, staying with Vanessa didn't sound too pleasant either. She was nice but he still didn't fully trust her. What if the dude came back and she wanted to kill him again? What if she just got tired of putting up with him and dumped him back on the streets? Or worse, handed him over to the police or CPS.

He wasn't going back to foster care.

"I want to stay here. With Freddy."

"Alright, just stay in his green room when it hits twelve, okay?" Vanessa leaned back a bit and ran a hand over her face. "We really half-assed planning this."

"Well, it's more planned out than my backup plan."

"Backup plan?" Shit, shouldn't have said that.

"Nothing, nothing." Freddy was giving him a confused look and Vanessa looked like she was catching on. Topic change, topic change. "So, dinner? I can just have pizza or a sandwich."

"If you're staying here that looks like our only option for now. Maybe we can get you some canned soup and stuff here for days I can't bring you dinner.."

"Gregory," Freddy said "Where are you going to stay tomorrow during the day?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, my friends will be roaming the pizzaplex freely and I do not want to have you run into anyone if you are not ready. You can stay with Sun again or-"
