"Wow Sage, that was amazing!" I shouted, slamming my laptop shut with a loud click.
"It was a mistake, I would never do something like that on purpose!" Arlo defended himself, but I already knew he'd be facing the USAC disciplinary committee.
"Yeah, of course, it wasn't your fault, but try explaining that to the committee members," I sighed, and Arlo shifted uncomfortably on the balls of his feet.
Just then, Sam strolled in, and I slapped my forehead in frustration.
Great, she was the last person we wanted to see right now.
"Uh, Sam, hi... you look amazing, love the eyeshadow," Arlo said awkwardly, but she shot him a glare through her glittering gold eyelids.
She knew we had messed up.
"I'm not talking to you, Arlo," she snapped, crossing her arms in frustration and turning to me with electric blue eyes that demanded an explanation.
Half an hour ago...
I had announced, "Now, Emerald, the valedictorian of the class of 2021, will brief you all about the curriculum. Arlo, please present the PowerPoint."
The projector sprang to life, but instead of the presentation I'd worked on all night, the screen displayed the website of Brazzers.
"ARLO!" I gasped, but it was too late. The footage was aired live on the university's website, and the amphitheater erupted into maniacal laughter from freshmen, horrified gasps from parents, and flashing cameras.
"ARLO, SHUT IT OFF!" I shouted into the microphone, and finally, the screen went blank again.
Present time...
Sam gasped, "Oh my god!" looking at me with disappointment and then looking at Arlo with a frightening glare.
"I-" Arlo started to explain, but Sam cut him off.
"Why the fuck would you not cross-check your laptop before directly connecting it to the screen? And YOU," she glared at me, "why didn't you cross-check everything?"
"I am sorry-" I began to apologize, but Sam wasn't having it.
"Explain that to the head, Vesper. I can't help you," she said, shaking her head.
I rubbed my temples, feeling a headache coming on, and the speakers of the empty amphitheater beeped to life.
"Arlo Sage and Vesper Evans, please report to the chancellor's cabin," Mrs. Sinclair's voice echoed through the room.
I looked at Arlo, panicked. We were screwed.
📚
"Mr. Evans, please brief me on today's orientation program," Mr. Collinson said with a smile, and I gulped.
