(Ch. 3) Lightning before Thunder

Chapter 3: The Power to Change Fate

"Hi-ya!" Maxi uses Rock Throw, a ball-shaped rock forming on the top of his tail and it flies towards Sukia. But the green-eyed Vulpix's body sets on fire and she quickly runs around it, her agility the same as a Quick Attack. Maxi gasps but he's given no time to react, the Rockruff getting hit square in the chest by a strong kick from Sukia. Her fire even leaves a black mark in his brown fur and he falls to the ground in his defeat.

"Nicely done! You've got some fast reflexes, Sukia." Ronin praises her. Team Bravery was giving a little training to both Team Fate and Team Pursuit before they set off on the missions Chief Frost had assigned them. Team Bravery were the veterans of the guild so they had the most experience and would often train new recruits.

"That's my Suki." Mikah says with a smile from where he sat beside the three older Pokémon, the Eevee never doubting that his partner would win the fight.

"I didn't hurt you, did I?" Sukia asks as she walks over to Maxi. She had barely taken any damage at all in the brief battle.

Maxi gets back up and gives a shake of his fur. "No, I'm alright-" The Rockruff winces when he puts too much pressure on one of his legs and he gives an awkward laugh. "Nothing that Faye can't fix. But enough about that, you were amazing! I'm really glad I got to fight you again. I can learn a lot just from facing you! Even if I am losing.."

Sukia gives a shrug. "Eh, don't count yourself out just yet. You gave me a run for my money for a sec there. Your Rock Throw's aim is getting better." She gives him an encouraging smile. "Keep it up."

A blush covers the Rockruff's cheeks as he stared at the Vulpix and it only worsened when Gash laughed loudly through his words. "I haven't seen you that happy after losing! Does somebody have a crush?"

Before Maxi could get the chance to deny anything in his flustered state, Mikah immediately cleared his throat and spoke up. "Me and Suki need to get going. Time is precious right now and the Chief expects results." He says without even waiting for a response from anybody, instead he walks out of headquarters.

Everyone looked surprised by the usually easygoing Eevee's sudden stern behavior but Maxi quickly spoke up before Sukia could follow after him. "Um, maybe we can spar some more? You know, after all of this is over with?" Sukia gives a single nod to the Rockruff before thanking Team Bravery for the training and she then follows after her partner.

"What was that about?" Sukia asks confusedly as she followed after Mikah, the two Pokémon making their way through Vibrant City which was once again bustling with Pokémon of all kinds.

As the two made their way towards the road that would turn into a trail leaving the city, Mikah mumbled under his breath while looking away from her. "I don't know what you're talking about.."

Sukia gave a snort and then a cackle as she watched his poor act. "You gotta be kiddin'! Are you jealous?"

Mikah instantly whirled around with a loud, stuttered shout. "N- no! I'm not j-" Sukia lifted a brow with her smirk remaining, making the Eevee's fur bristle with a blush. "Oh— never mind! We got stuff to do. Chief Frost wants us to investigate the thunderstorms over Canyon's Pass. It could be Thundurus's doing."

Sukia let her mischief subside as they got back to work. The Vulpix pulled the PokéNav out of Mikah's bag to look at the map. "Canyon's Pass is straight south. Alright. Let's get moving." Mikah beams a smile, cheered up after earlier's embarrassment and he then leads the way. Sukia however had her thoughts elsewhere. It had been days since they fought Tornadus, while Team Pursuit and Team Blitz went out searching for any unusual weather phenomena. And they haven't seen Team Shade since. Sukia looked at the PokéNav to check Team Shade's stats.
