Standing Up

Chapter Twenty

Jake's P.O.V.

I drag Ashley out of Skylar's house knowing that it was going to get messy. Sometimes I swear my sister is the dumbest person in the wolf area.

"Let go of me you idiot!" She screams at me punching me in the arm. I let her fall on the dirt ground as she picks herself up and dusts off the dirt. "You little jerk! I almost had her! Why can't you grow a pair and stand up for yourself huh!" Her words hurt me but only send me walking back to the car tired of this place.

"Jake! Where are you going!?" She screams at me from the top of her lungs getting really pissed. I don't care, I just want to go home. "Jake!?" She screams once more and I can feel my wolf want to burst out and just rip her apart.

I quickly run to her wrapping my hand around her tiny throat. "You know what Ashley, I'm really sick of you telling me what the fuck to feel. I odn't want to be here, you know why because I"m not wanted okay? So lets get the fuck out of here so I can go home." I growl at her and she gulps and we head back to the car together.

Skylar's P.O.V.

"So it was all a set up to just kill me?" I ask my Dad trying to understand this whole mess. "Yes, but he really was hunting me down. I'm so sorry Skylar, I just wanted to protect you from her." Dad's words confuse me a little but I decide to just let it all go. I don't want anymore fighting.

"Will I end up like her?" I ask glancing my eyes down in the den where my Mother lies with her neck broken. "No, she has been crazy for more then ten years Skylar. Her mother had it and her grandmother before her." Dad shakes his head but it doesn't really help me in my own conscience. "Don't worry about it okay?" Dad rubs my hand and I sip my coffee ready for another cup.

"I'll call the pack and tell them its time to come home." Dad starts to get up but I stop  him. "No, let them have their fun. I kind of just want to be alone tonight." I mutter to Dad as I watch the sun start to set. "Are we really going to leave the house?" I ask him not sure if I want too. So many bad things have happened, but so many good on top. "Well I was thinking we could move closer to the beach, plus I think Caleb has some other houses picked out as well." Dad nods with a smile and I get butterflies by the way Dad says his name.

"Is he treating you well?" Dad asks me after a while of silence.  I look at Dad worried, "Why wouldn't he?" I ask confused not sure that Caleb would be the type to not treat me right. "I'm just curious." He says simply. "I'm going to watch some tv, you alright for the night?" Dad asks me getting up from the chair and heading into the living room. I nod not wanting to talk anymore.

After he leaves I listen to the tv for a while, I try to concentrate on what show he is watching but nothing comes to mind. I give up on the tv and head for Caleb's bedroom still afraid of my own room. Will I ever be able to sleep in there again? Maybe moving isn't such a bad idea.

"Night Dad." I mutter going up the stairs and I'm not sure if he heard me or if he is too occupied by the tv to answer back.

I slip into one of Caleb's shirts missing him already. Maybe I should call him to tell him to come home. Or maybe I just miss what happened last night, mmmm. I curl up in a tiny ball and think of life beyond the pack, I picture Caleb and I on a beach house running around the house naked. Oh his naked body. I smile and he comes at me giving me kisses as our naked chests meet. He kisses my neck and I groan. "I love you." He mutters and I curl deeper into his chest.

When I wake up next its still dark and I know I have only slept for a few hours. I become upset when I notice that the bed has only my body in it. I miss Caleb. I stretch out and lay back down not really tired but not wanting to get up as well. I just lay there looking at the ceiling ready for it to be morning so I can see Caleb once more.
