It was early in the morning when Steve woke up. He was ready to go to school and see his friends. That was always what got him out of bed besides playing basketball. He got of the bed while rubbing his eyes to make things less blurry.
Steve was about to go to the bathroom until something caught his attention. Outside his window it was clear view of a room next door. Steve wondered who the room belonged to, the dim lights were on and all Steve could see was a few posters on the wall. Someone appeared in the window but their back was turned.
Immediately Steve recognized who it was when the guys long curly hair laid perfectly a long the back of his shirt. Steve quickly closed his blinds as his thoughts started to run wild. He ran his hands over face trying to stop the blush that was becoming visible.
"I need a cold shower." Steve rushed picking out clothes for school and headed towards the bathroom. After his brief shower that consisted of fake scenarios about the boy next door. Steve got dressed like usual and ran downstairs to get some breakfast.
His parents greeted him when he walked into the kitchen. Steve sat down in the empty seat with a plate across from it. The smell of pancakes, eggs, and bacon really made his day.
"Yesterday I went over to the new neighbors house." Steve's dad announced. Steve almost choked on his eggs after hearing that. His parents gave him a concerned look wondering what was wrong with their son.
"Y-you did?" Steve couldn't fathom the idea of his dad going out of his way to talk to the new neighbors. Steve didn't understand why he would panic just at the thought of getting close to their house, especially to the boy that he saw.
"Yeah, seem like good people to me. Wayne I think it was? Him and his nephew wanted a new start." Steve's dad spoke casually of the family and that made Steve feel silly about his past behavior. They were normal people just like everyone else in town.
"Did you talk to the nephew by any chance?" Steve asked not realizing that he blurted it out. Luckily his dad laughed off the comment and didn't take it serious.
"No I didn't but just by the short conversation with his uncle, I think you'd probably get a long with him." Steve's dad started to sound like his mom. He could tell by the smile on his mom's face that she was loving that idea.
"I told you Steve, this could be a new buddy of yours." Steve's mom patted him on his shoulder excitedly. Steve gave a small smile to both of his parents. They always knew what was best for him, this time he didn't feel like that.
"Only time will tell I guess," Steve said as he took the final bite of his breakfast. "I have to pickup Nancy and Robin." Steve kissed his parents goodbye and grabbed his car keys. He went the same route as usual to pick up Robin and Nancy then they were on their way to school.
"This semester has been hell, I still haven't finished my science project." Robin complained in the passenger seat. Nancy laughed in the backseat, Steve looked at her through the rear view mirror and thought about when they used date she would always laugh in a way that showed she enjoyed spending time with him.
"Steve you're awfully quiet. Is everything ok?" Nancy looked at him with a worried expression. Steve snapped out of his thoughts that contained the past. It was hard for him to move on but Nancy was happier with Jonathan and that's all that matters.
"Yeah I'm fine. I've just had a lot on my mind this morning." Steve tried focusing on the road which was impossible when his brain wanted him to think about everything and anything.
"What's been on your mind?" Robin asked in a silly voice making all of them laugh. Steve appreciated Robin during times like this, she made him feel at ease again.
"Well, yesterday a family moved next door to me. A uncle and a nephew." Steve informed the two girls in the car. They looked at him with confusion.
"What's wrong with that?" Robin asked and Steve could hear Nancy saying a faint "yeah" in the backseat.
"T-there's nothing wrong with it. The nephew just looks different that's all." Steve barely managed to get the sentence out and he started to blush again. Robin smirked to herself before she mumbled something. Steve couldn't hear her and he wondered what was so funny. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing you need to wire about Stevie, this is going to be an entertaining one." Robin laughed. Steve was very confused about what Robin was saying. They pulled up into the school parking lot and all of them got out.
Steve tried to tell himself that today was going to be a normal day, but he knew that wasn't going to happen.
