Steve was driving around in circles at this point. His hands were shaking with each turn he did and the sun was completely gone. Steve would take quick glances at Eddie in the passenger seat just looking out the window, not really caring where they would end up.
"Do you want me to uh... take you home?" Steve regretted asking the question even though it was late he didn't want to go home yet. As if Eddie read his mind he shook his head.
"Is there anything fun to do in this town?" Eddie adjusted himself in his seat and now his arm was on the armrest making him semi closer to him. Steve could feel Eddie's intense gaze on him, there was nowhere for him to run or look to avoid all of this.
"Not really. You kind of create your own fun." Steve said jokingly. Eddie laughed unexpectedly making Steve jump a little when he heard it. He didn't think it was possible to enjoy a sound so much but here he was. That weird feeling in his stomach from before was building up and he didn't know why.
"I see. How do you create your own fun, Harrington?" Eddie said while leaning closer with his arm on the armrest. Steve was so intimidated by Eddie's presence that he missed half of the question and his brain was working overtime. Even during his basketball games the other opponents couldn't break him, this was the first.
"I um... read sometimes." Steve cringed as the words came out of his mouth. He was making things worse by the minute and Eddie probably thought he was weird too.
"Me too but not the most "appropriate" selections of things." Eddie didn't think he needed to go into detail about what he meant. Steve's face told him otherwise and his only reaction was to laugh. "Please tell me you know what I mean."
Steve shook his head, he was genuinely confused. Eddie put a hand on his forehead and leaned back in the passenger seat. He wasn't oblivious to a lot of things and he knew what certain things were but majority of those things would send his parents into a hospital if they knew.
"We're both guys there's no need to be polished around me." Eddie said with a big smile. Steve did feel like he was holding back when he was with Eddie most of the time and the reason was still unknown, until now, he was being completely honest.
"I'm not trying to be polished. That's how I've always been." Steve admitted. Despite being an athlete and dating a lot of girls he was probably the purest person at school. He was able to overshadow the rumors about him being obsessed with sex by simply not engaging. People believed what they wanted to believe and he was fine with that.
"That's so sad." Eddie frowned at the thought of not being able to sin every once in awhile. With that in mind Eddie had an idea about the fun they could have, well, something that he hoped Steve would enjoy the most.
"Where is the nearest movie renting place?" Eddie asked with a little burst of energy running through him. Steve noticed the change in Eddie's tone but he didn't question it.
"Yeah it should be around up here." Steve pointed to the front of the car. Silence fell upon them for the rest of the ride and Steve finally felt relaxed for once.
When they finally got to the store it was close to closing time. The parking lot only had one other car in it so whatever they were getting they had to be quick. Eddie got out the car and Steve followed behind him, Eddie stopped him while putting his arm in between them.
"Wait in the car. I want to surprise you." Eddie disappeared into the store leaving Steve alone. Steve listened and got back into the car to wait. He wondered why Eddie didn't want him to see what he was choosing for a movie since it should be something they both wanted to see.
Eddie walked out of the store after a few minutes and he was carrying a bag in his hand. Steve watched him get in with a smile on his face while humming an unknown tune to Steve.
"Can I see what you picked?" Steve asked as he reached his hand over to the bag in Eddie's lap. Eddie slapped Steve's hand which actually stung and kind of left a bruise on it.
"You have to wait until I'm out of the car first, then you can look." Eddie said happily and tucked the bag further into his side. Steve started the car quickly because his curiosity was getting the best of him.
"Can you at least give me a hint?" Steve thought it was ridiculous that he couldn't see the cover of the movie. Eddie was enjoying every second of this, not telling Steve anything and he was making guesses that were very wrong. Steve gave up eventually since Eddie would not budge.
They entered their neighborhood and it was way past Steve's curfew. Eddie's house was first to come up and this would be the end of their trip for tonight.
"I uh... guess you can come over tomorrow. To watch the movie?" Steve was unsure of the invitation he was giving right now, Eddie had other plans in mind that Steve had no idea about.
"I could but that would ruin the fun," Eddie said while putting the bag near Steve and getting out the car. "Let me know if you liked it alright." He walked away and swiftly entered his house.
Steve glanced at the bag in the passenger seat and all he could think about was what type of movie did Eddie pick for him.
