The day went by pretty smoothly for Steve. He learned about the same stuff he's been learning for the past few weeks and everything was fine. Until the bell started ringing to signal to all the students that it was time for lunch.
Steve stood in line waiting for people to move up. Robin and Nancy were already sitting down eating their food. He sighed out of annoyance, the line was ridiculously long today and he didn't know why. Steve focused on moving up when the person in front of him stepped forward. He also noticed a few people down his neighbor was in line.
His rings lightly made a clinking sound that even Steve could hear from such a distance. Steve didn't know if it was intentional but the guy stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all the other kids. There was something different about him that Steve couldn't explain, he could only watch.
"Move up!" A girl spat at Steve with her arms crossed. Steve turned the brightest red in that moment.
"Sorry." Steve said quickly as he moved up with speed. After the hassle of getting his food from the lunch lady he hated, he could finally sit down and enjoy lunch. Robin and Nancy greeted him with sweet smiles as he made his way to the table.
"One day that lady's going to get fired. She's so rude." Steve said while giving the lunch lady last one last glare. "Anyways have you finished your project yet."
"No because apparently I needed to add more information to my essay." Robin gripped her hair tightly. She started stressing out by just thinking about it. Nancy looked at Steve and he wished that he never brought it up.
"There's no need to panic I can help you out with essay portion. Later today?" Nancy suggested to Robin who managed to calm down. Steve forgot that mentioning anything that involved school freaked Robin out. He mouthed a "sorry" to Nancy when Robin wasn't looking.
Steve watched the pair discuss the project and making it obvious that his opinions on science was not needed. He looked around the cafeteria at the other students nothing out of the ordinary. As if his eyes were like a magnet, Steve looked in the direction of his neighbor sitting at a table by himself.
The sunlight made it look like this was a scene from a movie. A movie that Steve couldn't stop watching, he would watch for hours nonstop and when the movie finally stops he will be there to restart it. Steve felt his heart beat fast when he made eye contact with him.
"Shit." Steve covered his face hoping that he didn't notice his intense staring. Robin and Nancy turned to him.
"Steve you've been acting weird all day." Nancy said raising a brow. Steve wanted to disappear into thin air. Nothing was going the way he wanted it to, he's never done anything like this before.
"Is it because of him?" Robin pointed in the same direction that Steve was just looking in. He swatted her hand down feeling even more embarrassed then he already was. "What? Isn't that your neighbor?"
"Jesus Christ tell the whole world will ya Robin. And how did you know he was my neighbor?" Steve asked with genuine confusion coming from him. She smiled from ear to ear, Steve knew that wasn't a good sign.
"He's the only person I didn't recognize and since you were basically drooling over him. So I put two and two together." Robin did a little happy dance after she correctly guessed the situation.
"Ok you're right. N-not about the drooling part though-"
"It's obvious you want to talk to him Steve. You're acting like a girl trying to avoid her crush right now." Robin throwing out that comparison wasn't supposed to be taken seriously but Steve couldn't help that his body froze up afterwards.
"No I'm not. Eventually I will talk to him at some point, we are neighbors after all." Steve was glad when the topic changed to something different. He understand why this was bothering him so much. It was just a new guy in town, that's all he was.
