"What do you mean?" Fitz asked. "I found you that day in the museum remember?" He sounded desperate, like reminding her would somehow click the memories back in place.

"Found me?" Sophie asked. "I don't even know you!" Sophie shouted.

"How do you explain how you got here then?" Fitz asked.

She reached for her temples and closed her eyes, "I... don't know. It's like the memory is there but its behind a wall. I can feel it. I think I got here by myself when I was 12." Sophie stated.

"Are any other memories like that?" Tiergan asked.

"A few, like one where I was in the healing center after an ambush with Umber. I can recall the memory but I can't... see it." Sophie stated blankly. "There is also one where I went to visit Everglen to attempt to read Alvar's mind. I can recall going to the overdrive and into the reception hall. I just... can't see the memory." "There are a few others but those ones have the largest walls." She finished.

Sophie finally opened her eyes to see everyone staring at her and Fitz looking especially pale.

"Do you remember how you were saved when you were kidnapped." He said just above a whisper.

Sophie thought for a second. "I transmitted to Alden, and he saved Dex and I."

Fitz paled even more. "All those memories have one thing in common," He started slowly. "They all were supposed to have me in them."

"I think you're wrong." Sophie argued. "I don't remember you at all."

Fitz slowly stood up and turned to his father.

"Do you think that when I transmitted too loud at the opening ceremony, she created a barrier that erased me from her memory?" He asked.

"It appears that way." Alden said after a second. "The only way to know for sure is for you to check."

"Okay." He crouched down at her level again. "Is it okay if I enter your mind?" He asked.

Sophie stared at him for a brief moment. "Sure."

Fitz reached for her temples. He gently placed his shaky hands on her, and entered.

Fitz knew the way that he mind would let him in was to transmit, "It's me" It had worked hundreds of times, but this time, no matter how much he tried to come in, her mind didn't recognize him.

Fitz realized something. The reason he could enter her mind normally, is because she trusted him so much, that just being him was an automatic enter. Her mind didn't know who Fitz was, or couldn't seem to remember.

Fitz gave up, he couldn't enter her mind, if her mind didn't know who he was.

Fitz lifted his hands off of her temples and opened his eyes to see the same girl he had once dated and loved, who couldn't remember him.

To his surprise, that girl, had her eyes closed. While Fitz was trying to break through Sophie had lost consciousness again. And Fitz had no idea why.
