Fitz opened his eyes to shouting. Only from Grady and Edaline though.

While Fitz was in Sophie's mind, apparently she had blacked out. Everyone thought it was Fitz's fault. He seemed to have figured out what was going on though.

"Stop!" Fitz shouted.

Edaline stopped out of shock, but Grady continued to yell.

"Don't tell me to stop! YOU keep making her blackout, YOU are causing this mess, and we have no idea what is happening!" He yelled.

"Actually, I know what's going on." Fitz said

Grady immediately stopped to glare at Fitz. "Then tell us." He said. Grady started to sound more desperate then angry.

Fitz began with telling them about what really happened at the opening ceremony. How he had been upset and downright angry about Keefe. He told them about what he transmitted to allow him to enter Sophie's mind. He finished with his theory.

"The reason Sophie is losing conciseness is because her mind is afraid to let me in. I broke her trust at the opening ceremony, and her mind is putting up boundaries to try and forget about me. Her conciseness wants me gone so badly, that it is willing to black out for possibly days, to forget and leave me behind. It's either that or..."

"What?" Alden asked when he didn't continue.

Fitz took a breath. "Her mind began to shatter from guilt when Keefe left, and she realized that I was effected by it. So when she sees me, or something reminds her of that guilt something else shatters."

Fitz closed his eyes. He didn't want to see the faces of her parents. They must have looked so heartbroken.

That was because they did. Everyone in the room was too stunned to speak. Everyone stood in silence, considering the possibility, that if Sophie's mind did break no one could fix it. Not even the person Fitz thought she trusted the most. If Sophie is reminded of Fitz, she breaks a little more. When will she forget her parents? Her past? Her friends? It was only a matter of time.

Mr. Forkle was hailed. He entered, or at least, tried to enter into her mind. He confirmed that her mind was in fact shattered. The final conformation was when Elwin pressed a sedative to her lips. Everyone held their breath.

She began to scream. In some sort.

The screams were silent and breathy.

No one had seen a mind break like Sophie's had.

Sophie didn't have anyone to fix her, she would have to fix herself.

The only way for her to protect herself would be to forget Fitz, to never see him again, to forget about Keefe, and to never finally get to hear about The Great Gulon Incident. Sophie would need to forget two people that were most important to her, and never be reminded of them again. Or she would crack.

Until then, Sophie would sleep.

Until who knows when.

Until she wakes up and starts a new journey.

Without Fitz

Without Keefe

Until she could fix herself or someone could break down the walls to remind Sophie of who she truly was.
