The next thing I knew, I was sitting in HQ, tired of Rhodey and Sam's endless bickering, while I waited for the rest to come up with something.

I wasn't here because I was part of the team. I wasn't even an official Avenger yet.

I'm here because my dad found me hiding behind one of the plant pots back at the compound, listening in on the meeting between the Avengers and an old guy who —From what I gathered— was the secretary of something. Whatever it was, his discussion with them was far too important for me to be around.

Although, I'm sure my dad only told me that so that the people working with the government didn't know he hired his kid to fight crime.

Other than that, this so-called essential conversation was mostly about the old guy's heart attack while playing golf and half a day's long surgery.

But I did learn that they were upset about the damage the Avengers left behind after each fight and the countless lives lost by accident...

They were given a deal. To work under the government instead of being a private organisation.

And I was fully aware of the split decision amongst the team.

And I knew that whatever my dad chose, it was automatically my choice too, whether I liked it or not.

My eyes landed on the man in question, laying on the opposite side of the yellow seat with his hand on his face. A clear indicator of stress.

"A hundred and seventeen countries want to sign this." Rhodey cut off whatever Sam was saying.

I lost track of the conversation long ago.

"A hundred and seventeen, Sam, and you're just like, 'No, that's cool. We got it-'"

"How long are you going to play both sides?" Sam asked.

"I have an equation!" Vision butt in.

"Oh, this will clear it up," Sam crossed his arms over his chest as the two men turned their attention to the Android.

"In the eight years since Mister Stark announced himself as Iron Man...-"

Has it been eight years?

"-... The number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially. And during the same period, the number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commensurate rate."

"Are you saying it's our fault?" Steve asked.

"I'm saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... Breeds catastrophe. Oversight... Oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand."

"Boom," Rhodey turned to Sam.

"Tony?" Nat spoke up from beside me.

The hand on my dad's face flew off as he sighed.

"You are being uncharacteristically non-hyperverbal."

"It's because he's already made up his mind," Steve answered for him.

"Boy, you know me so well," my dad sassed. "Actually, I'm nursing an electromagnetic headache."

They sure do have a thing for deep vocabulary.

"That's what's going on, Cap. It's just pain." My dad defended as he got up to get himself a glass of coffee, probably. "It's discomfort."
