It was three in the afternoon and I was getting ready for this summer party I was invited too.

"Danny, how long does it take you to get ready?!"
"Maddie, calm down I am already done," I replied, to my sister.
We walk outside of our apartment and head to the front gate of the complex, until I ran into someone.
"Sorry about that. Here let me help you," The person stretch out there hand to pull me up.
I accept it and get pulled up.
"Sorry, I was not looking were I was going," They say.
"It's alright, I was not looking where I was going either. Wait...are you new here? I have not seen you around before," I asked.
"Yeah, I'm Daniel Larusso. I just moved into apartment 20," He replies, with a smile.
"Well it's nice to meet you Daniel, I'm Daniela Hernandez but people call me Danny. I live in apartment 14," I say, pointing to my apartment.
"Sorry if I have to break up this little chit-chat here but her and I need to go," Maddie say, squeezing in between Daniel and I.

She pulls me with her, so I wave goodbye to Daniel and I head off to the beach.

At the beach

"What was that back there?" Maddie ask, while setting up her towel and the snacks.
"Nothing," I say, setting up my stuff.
"You sure it was nothing because the way you looked at him was the same way you look at guys at our school when you have fallen in love with them," she says, looking at me with an rise eyebrow.
"Fine, he was cute but he is probably going to a different school, so I won't be able to talk to him," I say, laughing a little.
"Are you sure about that because he is walking down with Freddie and his gang," she says, pointing to them.

I turn and see them, he sees me and waves. I wave back. Okay maybe this school year won't be so bad after all. My sister gives me a push and a thumbs up when I start walking over to Daniel.
"Hi again," I say
"Hi...you look really pretty. I-I mean, well you do look pretty, just I never seen a girl as pretty as you...uhhh...I should stop talking," He says, with hands in his face.
"It's okay, you look cute when you shudder but thanks for that compliment tho," I say, chuckling.
"Want to play soccer with me and some of the guys here?" He asked me.
"I would love to," I say, walking with him.

20 minutes go by

I got to say I'm pretty good at soccer. I was making these boys run. Daniel accidentally kick the ball to a group of girl that I knew but don't talk to as much anymore. Both Daniel and Ali both shared a minute of staring at each other, smiling like bunch of dorks, it made me smile but made my heart hurt.

I grab the ball out of Daniels hands, messing around with it while smiling.
"Danny give it back," He says, trying to grab it but I was too quick for him.
"If you want so badly then come and get it then," I says, smiling and running around.

He comes chasing after me, reaching me. He picks me up and brings me to the water. He drops me in the cold water, making me scream, he laughs making my heart warm up. I never felt like this before in a long time, yes I went on a couple of dates with guys before but something about Daniel takes me back when my old best friends were really my best friends.

I missed hanging out with them, playing baseball with them, swimming in the lakes with them, roasting s'mores in Johnny's backyard, making jokes with Tommy even tho they were bad, playing dnd with Jimmy, playing with Dutch's dogs even if they scared me, and learning how to skateboard from Bobby. They were the death of me, they made me forget all the dark stuff in my past and made me look at the future in a brighter way.

"Danny? You okay?" Daniel asked, taking my hand to pull me up.
"Huh? Oh, um, I'm good, just thinking that's all," I say, nervously laughing.
"Come on, let's go swim," I say, running into the ocean deeper, screaming.

9 pm

9 pm rolls around. Daniel and I were talking and laughing while Maddie was rosting us some s'mores. Behind Daniel I could see Ali looking at us, giving me a glare. I roll my eyes and look at Daniel, into his chocolate brown eyes getting lost in them.

"Okay love birds, order for one s'more ma'am. And order for one s'more also for you sir," Maddie says, in a British accent.
"Thank you kind sir," I say too, in my accent.
"So, are you two sisters or just friends?" Daniel ask, with some s'more on his face.
"Yeah we're both sisters," I say, grabing a tissue, wiping off the s'more off his face.

After we finished our s'mores, the boys kick the soccer ball over to Daniel. Daniel stands up and starts juggling the ball. I turn and see Ali staring at him, looking like she wants to make a move on him. I turn back to Daniel and keep staring at him.

"Yo, lover boy, if you keep staring at him. Your other ex-best friend is going to take him too," Maddie says, pointing at him.

I get up and walk to him.

"Can you teach me?" I ask.
"Of course, so first start bouncing the ball on of one your legs, well that's what I do first, then one-two-three then the other leg four-five-six," he says, showing me.

He gives me the ball and I do it pretty well. I was so happy, I was bouncing up and down. Daniel was laughing and tell me I looked cute when I get exited about something. It made me blush. We keep on juggling and laughing until we fall on each other on the ground. It made us both smile at each other until I heard familiar motorcycle engines going off. Great just my luck. I groan and get up. I get the ball and kick it far away from Daniel and I. I feel bad seeing Daniel run getting the ball while walking to Maddie packing up our stuff.

The motorcycle engines stop and I can hear foots coming toward me.

"Hey Daniela! Can we talk?" I heard Johnny ask.

I ignored him as usual and keep walking to Maddie.

"Daniela! Can you please stop ignoring us and talk to us," Johnny begged, grabbing my wrist.

I stop and turn around, trying to get my hand out of his grip.

"Can you let go," I say, glaring at him.
"Yes, until you talk to us," He said.
"What is there to talk about, huh? You all left me in the dust just for some stupid karate shit, and now you want to talk? I needed you guys back then but no, you just had to be popular!" I yelled, at him

He looks at me with teary eyes not letting go.

"Dude did you not hear her? She said let go!" Said Maddie, kicking Johnny in the balls.

He let's go of my wrist falling into the sand. Maddie and I go back to our things with the help of Daniel but Daniel got pulled back by his hair by Dutch. Dutch started punching while me and Maddie were being restrained by Jimmy, Bobby, and Tommy.

"Dutch stop! You're going to hurt him," I yell
"What do you think I'm doing then princess," He said, not stopping.

I elbow Tommy in the stomach and kick Bobby in balls. I run to Dutch and Daniel and pull Dutch off of him.

"What the heck is wrong with you guys?! What happened to my nice best friends that I sweared to be best friend with until the end of time?!" I yelled.

I help Daniel up and walk him up the sand bar to my car with my sister right behind me. Daniel climbs in, so does me and Maddie. I look out to my ex-best friends, giving them one last look, then giving them a middle finger and driving off.
