Hawkins, Indiana |1986|
Eddie Munson thought he knew Steve Harrington, but he really didn't.
He'd by wary to admit the rumors he'd believed since freshman year were wrong, completely wrong. Steve wasn't this stuck up man-whore who fucked girls and left them. He wasn't a slutshamer, sexist womanizer that Tommy H. And Carol had told him.
When Eddie had properly met Steve, he was sweet, caring, passionate. In the beginning, the only reason he began to have a different view on Steve was because Dustin would never shut up about the guy when they first became friends.
24/7 it was; "so Steve-" "guess what, Steve-"
"Steve is like a big brother to me" "I love Steve," yadda yadda yadda. Eddie would be lying if he said he wasn't even a tiny bit jealous of the boy. With his to die for looks, and caring personality, Steve would make a great boyfriend. Eddie didn't understand why Nancy left him for Jonathan a while back, but everyone has their reasons.
"Eddie? You good?" Dustin asked as they walked into the lunchroom. Eddie broke out of his daydream, and looked the curly-haired boy in the eyes. With a smile he said, "yes, just fine."
They sat down at their table to be accompanied by Mike, Will, Lucas, and a couple of Eddie's friends from Junior year. They talked about their normal stuff. D&D, music, and then the occasional teasing of Mike and Will because of how gay they are.
"I'm just saying-I don't like Will! I am obviously still getting over the break-up with Eleven.." Mike tried to claim, a vibrant blush spread across his cheeks as he rubbed his neck.
Eddie leaned in to Mike, smirking. "Sure, Mikey. I believe you." He whispered sarcastically, as Will sat there, just looking out the window. Lucas and Dustin chimed in, ripping on both the boys for their crushes. Eddie's friends had their own conversation, so he began to stare off into the crowd of endless people.
He saw Nancy and Robin talking at a table alone and....Steve?!
"Hey freak." Steve said to Eddie, smiling a cheeky smile with a lunch tray in hand. "Mind if I sit here?" He asked, pointing to the sit across from him. Eddie felt dumbfounded. Sure, they were..sort of friends now, but Steve Harrington sitting on his-WITH him? Wowza.
"Uh...yeah, I guess? What about Buckley and Wheeler?" He asked, slightly nudging his head at the girls. Steve sat down across from the boy and bit into his apple. "They're talking about something...didn't want me around for it, I guess." Steve mumbled as he chewed.
Eddie felt all weird inside, tingly and such. He was probably just weirded out because of King Harrington sitting with the "freak satanist" it wasn't normal. Yeah, that was it.
Eddie had already come to terms with his sexuality. He was gay, and he knew it and accepted it. That wasn't the problem though. He just didn't want Steve Harrington to be his next crush.
Ew, not that he would be, but like, just in case.
Now Steve on the other hand....
"Robin what the hell, there's no way I like dudes. It's just not me." Steve persisted as they drove to their work. As Robin was brushing her hair out in the mirror on the sunshade, she bursted into laughter.
"Oh yeah, we've all seen the way you look at Eddie. There's nothing straight about that. Your practically drooling every time you come into contact with him, saying 'oh Eddie! I love you so much, marry me'" Robin made fake kissy noises and that earned a playful hit from Steve.
His cheeks turned a bright pink. "THAT'S NOT TRUE. Y-YOU KNOW WHAT ROBIN, PISS OFF!" Steve defended, angrily. He focused on driving, trying to get the dark brunette out of his mind.
This is how it's been, ever since the day Dustin brought him in to meet Eddie. When Eddie pushed him up against that wall and threatened him, all the aggression made him-
"STEVE! Pull in here, this is the cd shop, dingus." Robin interrupted. Guess all this nonsense was distracting him.
He parked in their typical parking spot and got out. As they walked inside, the bell ringing, Steve felt relieved. It was why he loved working here. This tiny store in the middle of nowhere was a second home to him. Mostly because he was there with his best-friend and platonic soulmate, but the music too. Steve didn't come off as a music lover, but he was.
He had a hidden talent for piano and bass, and he played whenever he could. He could play most of his favorite classic piano songs in different chords, and he loved all the bass lines to the Beatles songs and had learned them when he was ten.
Their first customer of the day made Steve almost piss his pants.
"Hey, Big Boy~" Eddie walked up to the counter, and bent over slightly to match Steve's height. He batted his eyelashes and smiled, full teeth, looking at him.
"Are you following me?!?!" Steve looked at him with a suspicious look.
Robin glanced at Steve from aside, and they met eye contact. She winked and walked into the back room with a box of cd's.
"Oh Stevie-Boy, I know you were the king for awhile and people cared about you-but im only here to buy a few cd's. You, though, are a bonus." He winked, and smirked.
Steve felt a rush of panic as he blushed and felt something begin to rise in his pants.
FUCK FUCK FUCK he thought, as he covered his hard on with a box.
He didn't know that Eddie noticed that and his reaction. It made his lower stomach swirl with butterflies as he tried to stay calm. Apart of him wanted to jump up and down with his fists in the air at the little progress he's made with his "close friend."
"So, what do you want?" He asked.
"A little smile and some positivity, jeez, Harrington." He returned. God he loved making this boy squirm. He was in a total full blow panic attack over this.
Steve just rolled his eyes, the blush still present. Eddie bit his lip as he leaned in even closer, feeling promiscuous. "I'll take two Metallica CD's. One "and justice for all" and another "master of puppets."
Steve nodded obediently, digging out the cd's.
He pushed the boxy buttons on the old register, and printed a receipt. "That'll be $4.50. Cash or card?"
"Will a kiss make it free?" Steve quickly thought of him kissing Eddie Munson, and had to shoo the thought away before his erection came back.
Eddie leaned in even closer, almost as if he were to kiss Steve.
Steve licked his lips, as they felt oddly dry, and looked down at Eddie's lips. How beautiful and soft they looked. But rough at the same time...
Eddie grabbed the cd's from the table, and stood back up straight, revealing his height.
"Here, Harrington. Keep the change." Eddie handed him a $5 bill, and began to walk the other way, Steve getting a waft of his scent. Cigarettes and Cologne, how typical.
The bell rang as he left, walking out to his black convertible, painted with different band stickers.
Steve gawked at him until he pulled out, and left the parking lot.
He sighed, rubbing his temples.
What the hell are you doing to me, freaky boy? Why do I feel like this, is homosexuality contagious?
