The Geography Crush

Leaving the school

POV: Nicholas

Today is my last day in this school.
After today, I'll be out taking a course.
And I'll not return until the next year.

I looked at the teacher's schedule.
The only class left is Geography.
I gave deep breaths and proceeded to class 4.

"Good morning class." I greeted.
"Good morning, Mr Nic."

And so, all the students sat down on their chairs and began their small conversations.

"Class, I have an important announcement. I'll be leaving after today. I'll be taking a course and won't be back till next year."

And from my position, I could see disappointments on their faces and I could hear some begging me not to leave. But, I've already did what has been done. Nothing can be changed.

"Alright class, let's start lesson." I said, changing the topic.

And after hours of teaching, the school bell rang.
School is over.

"Alright, that's all for today. Tomorrow's geography lesson, Mrs Smith will be teaching you guys. Thank you class."
"Thank you and goodbye, Mr Nic." the class replied.

I stood at the teacher's desk, waiting for every student to leave before I leave. But suddenly, I realized a student came up to me.

"Yes, EL?"
"Can you please don't leave. I beg you. I'll get down on my knees and do anything. Just please." EL said.

I was shocked. This was my very first time experiencing this. And so, I didn't know how to react."

"EL, but I have already arranged the course. I can't just not go."
"Please, I beg you. Don't leave us." she got down on her knees.

I looked down at her, trying hard not to get myself to change my mind. But in the end, I surrendered.

"Alright, stand up now. I won't leave." I patted her shoulder, "Leave the classroom and head home."
"Okay." she nodded.

After she left the classroom, I sat down on the chair.
I sat there all alone.
What was I doing just now? Why did I change my mind?

But then, my thoughts changed to her.
Why did she approach me in the first place? Why did she beg me not to leave?
I had loads of questions unanswered.

But then, since I promised her. I need to keep my promise. I took out my phone and called.

"Hello, I'm calling as to cancel my course. Something came up and I'm not able to attend the course. Is it possible to retreat?" I asked.
"Yes you may. But, you must fill up a form and get approval, before you can retreat."
"Alright, thanks." I said, closing te call.

Thankfully, I could cancel the course.
But now that I think of it, why did I even cancel it in the first place?
Why did I listen to her?
I think I'm not okay.
Could I be..?
