He doesn't understand! I don't WANT to show them! What if they won't let me come to school? What if they think I'm a monster? Grandma and Grandpa called me a monster...

"Lupa, honey, it's okay, just show them what you showed me." she doesn't understand that this is for her own good... She has to understand how important it is that Dumbledore knows exactly how it is with her.

"It hurts Papa. It hurts to do it." Lupa hated going against what her father wanted, but how could she just show these strangers what she could do? Even if she was only eleven she understood perfectly what was happening, and she didn't want to ruin her only chance to go to Hogwarts, and reading her dad's mind didn't help her.

Remus sighed and knelt in front of his daughter, "Baby, it's okay, I know it hurts, but I need you to show Professor Dumbledore, please." Please Lupa. You don't know how important this is...

Lupa took a deep breath and scrunched her eyes shut. It's okay. It's okay. I can do this. She focused on the feelings that had made her shift before, excitement, fear, confusion. Pain stabbed at her back and slammed into her skull.

It hurt.

Alot.

It hadn't hurt the first two times, but when she had tried to show her father it was agonizing, now it was worse.

Infinitely worse.

And then it was over.

"Well... this certainly changes things... Lupa, are you feeling alright?" Dumbledore placed his hand on Lupa's shoulder, she looked up into his eyes and nodded slowly.

All of her senses were sharpened, she could see the filaments of his eyes moving as his pupils expanded and contracted quickly, and he smelled like... lemon drops. His whole office smelled like lemon drops... and something else... Ash, that was it, lemon drops and ashes. Fae, most likely.

"How many times has she done this?" It shouldn't hurt her unless she's near burnout, But she couldn't be near burnout unless she's done it before...

"I don't know sir, this is only the second time I've seen her shift... Lupa?"

"I did once when I almost fell out of the tree at Grandma's house, then when I showed Grandma and Grandpa, when I showed you, and now, so four."

"ALL TODAY?"

"Well, yeah, why?" Well, that explains why it hurt so much. "Professor McGonagall, could you fetch Professor Kettleburn? I need his expert opinion." Dumbledore started pacing and Lupa couldn't help but follow his thoughts. If she is a fae, we will have to do quite a bit of research, and a little experimenting– Lupa's heart slammed into her ribs EXPERIMENTING?! I am not your bloody science experiment! Dumbledore stopped in his tracks and stared at her. "Miss Lupin..." he pointed to the air above her right shoulder, "What is that?" Lupa looked where he was pointing and saw a small, round, dark green creature hovering there, with a wide, smiling mouth full of little pointed teeth. Seconds later two more of them appeared, one red, one black, excepting color they are identical.

Just then a man with no legs walked in. Lupa's eyes went directly to the prosthetics, her heightened senses examining every bolt, they were ingenious.

"Professor Dumbledore! Where did you get such a perfect specimen?" Annnnd I don't like you. He moved quickly over to Lupa and stared into her face. He signed something with his hands and looked at her expectantly.

"If you expect me to understand whatever the heck you just did... I don't." The man gaped at Lupa and turned to Dumbledore.

"SHE TALKS?"

"YES I talk! Why wouldn't I?"

"Professor Kettleburn, my daughter is perfectly normal, she can understand anything you say." Remus said quietly, "she's perfectly normal." Except for... the wings... and the horns... and the tail... and whatever is going on with her face...Lupa sighed, thanks papa but you know that's not true.

Dumbledore and Kettleburn were talking quietly, and after a moment, Lupa tentatively began following their thoughts.

She seems safe enough, I think her coming to school would be alright, I'll just need to keep an eye on her...

I'll have to study her, she seems odd, not like any Fae I've ever seen before...

I'm NOT an experiment! Lupa looked at her father, he smiled nervously at her. Please, please let it be alright... Lupa gulped. If Papa was nervous... shouldn't she be?

But she didn't feel nervous.

Not at all.
