I see a tall serious looking woman gazing down at me.
"Are you alright Miss Titus?"
Who's that?-oh wait, my fake name. Right. "I think so? What happened?"
"You fainted on the platform dear, I thought it wise to take you directly to Hogwarts instead of across the lake, your fellow first years will be here in a moment." wait... I fainted? WHAT?
"um... Professor? I fainted? Why?"
"Well, you did do some screaming as well, something about- well, maybe I shouldn't tell you, you were rather profane for an eleven year old girl." ooooh phooeymajiggers, Dad is not going to be happy about that...
"Can I at least know sort of what I said? It'll be helpful when my dad descends on the school and all hell breaks loose while he yells at me for 'being profane' or whatever..."
"Well, no one is entirely sure... You'll have to ask Mr Weasley and Mr Weasley. AFTER sorting."
"R-ight. Okay, um, what do we do?"
The woman smiles, "You'll see Miss Titus, you'll see." well, If it doesn't have anything to do with people...
"Alright."
I whip around as a knock sounds on the great hall door. The professor grips my shoulder and opens it.
"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall," I recognize the voice from the platform, now I have a face to put to it.
"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here." Professor McGonagall leads the students into a small side chamber after releasing her vice-like grip on my shoulder. " Welcome to Hogwarts. The start-of-term banquet will begin soon, but before you take your places in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is very important because, while you are here, your house will be like your family in Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room."
"The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while waiting." McGonagall stares pointedly at a few students, "I shall return when we are ready for you, please wait quietly." she leaves the room and Draco leans over to me.
"What do you think they have us do?" I shrug and sigh, I really do not like how many people are near me, can we go yet?
"Maybe there's a test of some sort?" I sure hope not! Why did I suggest that... Suddenly a crowd of ghosts floats through the wall
"Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance —"
"My dear Friar, haven't we given Peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name, he's not really even a ghost — what are you all doing here?"
A ghost wearing a ruff and tights notices the crowd of first years below
"New students! About to be Sorted?" The first ghost who spoke, the one that looks like a friar smiles down at the crowd. A few people nod silently. "I hope to see you in Hufflepuff!" he beams "My old house, you know."
"Move along now," McGonagall has come back for us, FINALLY we can get out of this small room! "The Sorting Ceremony's about to start." The Ghosts slowly file out through the wall, "Now, form a line," Professor McGonagall says sternly "and follow me."
