"THANKS FOR THE RIDE." Evelyn said as she slipped her bag over her shoulder. Jonathan mumbles a small, "You're welcome." as she gets out.
Shutting the door, Evelyn turns to him and gives him a small, yet reassuring smile, "Hey, they'll find him. He's a smart kid and I honestly believe he'll be okay."
Jonathan looks at her when she speaks; he gives her a nod and a thankful smile. "Yeah, he is."
Nodding, she pats the window seal and stands up straight, heading towards her front door. Walking into the house, she expects to see her mom and Dustin, but was sort of disappointed to find no one home.
Her mom must have went out grocery shopping and Dustin was probably with his dorky friends.
Walking into her room, she hangs her bag up behind her door and throws herself onto her bed. God, was she exhausted.
Flipping over from her stomach, to her back, Evelyn began to think. She wondered if Steve was going to call her tonight to apologize, or if he'd show up at her window or door, begging to be forgiven; he always did.
Everytime they fought or got into some sort of argument, he'd apologize the same day—unless it was late at night, then he'd do it first thing in the morning.
She just couldn't stand how entitled he was and acted. She knew he acted that way with others to keep his place on the social ladder, I mean, so did she. But he'd never picked on Jonathan before, so why now?
Groaning, she grabs a pillow and stuffs her face in it, releasing a loud but muffled scream.
Why was Steve Harrington so frustrating?!
"Evie?!" Evelyn freezes at the familiar voice. Slowly, she lowers the pillow away from her face. "Will?" She called out in confusion.
Was he in her house? Had he come back?
"Evie!"
Evelyn bolts up to her feet, running to her door and yanking it open, thinking she'd come face to face with the boy. But when she didn't, her eyebroes creased.
"Dustin! If this is some kind of sick, psychotic prank, I'll kill you!" She calls out, but she recieved no answer. "Dustin?"
The hallway lights begin to flicker, causing Evelyn to flinch in surprise. She didn't like this...not one bit.
"Come on, Dustin! Cut it out!" She yells out again, but still—nothing.
So, she steps out of her room a little more, looking at both ends of the hallway, back and forth.
1....
2....
3...
Nothing.
Sighing, Evelyn determines that she was just hallucinating from whatever reason.
"I really need to stop smoking random shit Tommy gives me." She says to herself, turning back to enter her room. That's when she freezes, all color exiting her face.
There, standing nine feet tall with a lack of facial features, was some sort of humanoid creature with elongated limbs. Evelyn didn't even get the chance to scream before she passed out.
Later that night, after much practicing on what to say, Steve pulled up in front of the henderson residence.
Turning off his car, he releases a shaky sigh, running a hand through his hair and pulling out a piece of paper from his pocket.
"Okay," he starts, releasing a breath of air, "Hey, evie. Your hair looks great by the way; look, I wanna apologize for earlier—I know what I said was crossing the line, and I really care about you, you know? You're my best friend, and I hate fighting with you, so...friends again?"
Nodding to himself in satisfaction, he gets out of the car, making his way to the front door in confidence. After all, she always forgave him, so he wasn't too scared or nervous.
Knocking on the door, he waits for maybe a minute before the door is answered by, Ms. Henderson.
"Steve!" She grins, happy to see the boy her daughter was so fond of. "How are you? Please, come in."
"Thank you, Ms. Henderson. I've been good." Steve smiles politely, stepping into the house. "I was wondering, is Evelyn in?"
Ms. Henderson frowns, almost confused. "No, I thought she was with you?"
"Uh...no, no. We uh—we got into a little argument this afternoon and I haven't seen her since. Came to apologize." He frowns with the same look of confusion and worry.
Ms. Henderson let's out a shaky breath and turns towards the hallway, "Dusty bun! Can you come here please?"
Not even a minute later, a red, puffy eyed Dustin walks out. "Yeah?"
"I'm sorry, sweetie. But do you know where your sister is? Have you seen her?"
Dustin shakes his head, "No. i went to her room earlier to tell her about Will...but she wasn't there."
"Oh.." Ms. Henderson places a hand to her heart, now worried.
"Um, she was with the Byers kid when I last seen her." Steve tells her, praying to god that's who she was with.
Ms. Henderson vigorously nods, almost running to the telephone to phone the Byers house. Dustin stays, now worried as well.
"Hi, Joyce. This is Amelia." Ms. Henderson greets, "I this probably isn't a good time, but I was wondering, is Evelyn over by any chance? Or with Jonathan?"
After a short time, Ms. Henderson released a weeping gasp, placing a hand over her heart. "O-okay, thank you! I'm so sorry for your loss. Uh-huh, bye."
Hanging up, Ms. Henderson turns to Steve. "Could she be with anyone else? Any other friends?"
"N-no, they were all at the basketball game." Steve shakes his head, his voice quivering at the possibility that whatever psycho that took the Byers kid, may have taken Evelyn.
Ms. Henderson releases a sorrowful sob, her hand slapping against her mouth. Her knees giving out, but Dustin was quick to catch her, holding her as she cried.
"I'll call the chief." Steve tells them, running to the telephone and dialing the police station.
"Hello? I need to speak to hopper." He demands. "I think my best friends missing."
AUTHORS NOTE:
Hi lovelies!! I'm so excited to be back. I've been trying to write chapters for this fanfic and my other, but I've been dealing with a lot of grief as I've lost many close family members lately. I've also been dealing with a lot of stress over being forced to go to college when I wanted to take a gap year🥲 everytime i went to write, I lost motivation and I feel like that's my excuse every time but I swear I want to write😩
I'm going to try and get more chapters in this week though! I'm staying with my dads side of the family to connect more with them because I never get to see them and since my dad and his sister, my aunt just recently passed away, I felt it was necessary and a long overdue stay <3 but being here has helped me a lot and I feel so much more motivated to continue in life and everything.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. The next we'll get more of Evelyn's powers and will! :)
