"It's my turn this year to put the star on the tree!"

"No way! You did it last year!"

"Nuh-uh, you did it last year Marasaki-chan!"

"How about Todoroki-kun and Nya-san? It's their first Christmas here as a family, why not let them put the star on the tree?" Akira-san suggested as she crouched down onto her knees to the kids who were playing tug of war with a gold star.

The tree was all set up in the corner of the lounge room, the decorations covering it from head to toe, homemade ones as some of the kids made them in school over the years, and some coloured themed ball-balls and tinsel.

Both the young ones, Izumi and Murasaki were fighting over who was to put the final touch on the tree, usually, they have a list of who has done it in the past, and who was next in line.

Unfortunately, they had trouble locating the list. So Akira suggested the two newest members who have joined the family. Nya is Inosuki's partner who they have been dating for a year now.

This was the family's first time meeting her in person. She often shows up on facetime when the family communicates and catches up at least once a month. She had long dark blue hair and raven-coloured eyes, perfect skin and spoke quite confidently.

She placed her can of coke down, (she was only 17) and stood up, "I'd love to put the star on the tree with Todoroki-Kun," she smiled.

Todoroki looked up from his book, glancing at the several eyes on him, "oh, no—no I don't want to intervene," he waved his hand.

"Oh come on! We can do it together," she waved her hand, grabbing his. While she was helping him up, he placed his bookmark between the pages and closed it.

Walking over to the tree, they both stood shoulder to shoulder as Chihiro handed the golden star between the two. They held either side of the decoration, before lifting it and placing it on the very top of the tree.

Nya stood back as she wrapped her arm around Shoto's forearm, the group waiting as Masaru switched the power on. With a flick, the tree lit up in a beautiful display of colours.

Shoto had never seen a Christmas tree designed so creatively, the colours casting shadows across the walls, the decorations and ball-balls fitting well with the theme chosen.

He always used to hear kids his age during the holidays talk with such fascination behind the traditional Christmas element, never truly knowing why they enjoyed it so much.
