I once sat down with Viraa, the awoken hunter of my fireteam. We sat in a secluded area of the outskirts in the EDZ, with a fire going in front of us. She barely ever looked up at me as she spoke. The topic of discussion? Cayde. Her words chilled my bones, and made my heart sink like a rock thrown in the ocean. Cayde was my friend, but he was her mentor. He taught her everything she knew. She wouldn't handle a golden gun like she does if it weren't for him. I'll never forget her words, and the strain I felt in her soul as they were spoken: 'Cayde was like no one I had ever met since my resurrection. He wasnt just my friend. He wasnt just my mentor. He was the shaper of my light. My introduction to the beauty of the wilds, and what it means to be a part of them. You watched the light go out in his eyes, didnt you Sabyr? The light that gave me comfort and hope, even when my light was gone. The only thing that kept me coming back to that damned tower.' I couldnt respond. No words could pass my lips that would comfort her. So I held her. Until her tears of anger stopped.
