Success looked different for everybody. Some measured success by materialistic accomplishments and others measured it based solely on becoming better versions of themselves by evolving every single day.
In both their personal and work life by being better than they were yesterday. For true success came from always evolving and that applied to everything, not just materialism.
For Alexa, success definitely meant the latter. One of her many missions in life was to prove each and every individual who had ever doubted or underestimated her - wrong.
That included certain family members. Close family members. It was probably the main reason why every time she entered a room that consisted of successful men, she wouldn't smile - not even once.
Most men she encountered who were in the same position as her, had an extremely poor habit of assuming that she made it this far by either sleeping her way to the top, being blessed with handouts or inheritance.
She was flattered that they thought she had came from generational wealth though, what she would give to have everything handed to her on a silver platter. Unfortunately that wasn't in her nature. The woman was hard working, smart and could think very quickly on her feet.
So while she sat in another monotonous meeting with the board of directors, she couldn't help but feel a sense of ease. Alexa experienced a few disagreements with every single person in this room and put each one of them in their rightful place - respectively of course.
She had given them minimal authority in the company and they weren't too fond about that outcome. Apart from this team, she had a legal team backing her on a daily basis so they couldn't try to conspire even if they wanted to.
The members on the board were soon to be replaced and she was grateful therefore. The aim was to hire more women and individuals who had completed the relevant degree but haven't gotten the opportunity to work in their field.
They continued to discuss the financial oversight of the company, the legal aspects, the monitoring of services and programs. The list went on but each topic was brief so they could cover the premise of everything to ensure that the business was operating efficiently.
"The only problem I have is the lack of employees. Each staff member contributes to the daily operation of the business. Are you sure you'll be able to complete all of the necessary work?" One of the members questioned in a condescending tone. It was a gentleman that was only a few years older than Alexa.
The man was definitely bitter after Alexa rejected his advances towards her. "Thank you for bringing that up Asher."
Not only was he unprofessional but he had a tendency of trying to make her look incompetent in front of other people.
Alexa's tone of voice held a tinge of hostility. She crossed one leg over the other and leaned forward, placing her pen down on the oak desk.
"I'm sure everyone in this room is aware that we are currently in the process of hiring more employees. I'm assuming it's common knowledge that the hiring process is lengthy and we can only hire a certain amount of people at one time due to finances."
Asher had to refrain from glaring at her and the man's jaw ticked due to irritation and embarrassment. "As for the work being completed before their respective deadlines, this company has been operating for two years now and before there was this much employees - myself and a handful of other individuals were doing all of the work ourselves, so yes I'm certain that all of the necessary work will be completed on time."
The rest of the members didn't say anything and only watched the whole scene unfold. "Are there any other questions gentlemen?" She looked around the room, waiting for anyone else to say or ask something.
