I woke up before my alarm with a pain in my heart. My brain wouldn't even shut off the thought of leaving while I slept, and I ended up getting everything packed and ready earlier than I planned, just so I could enjoy the last couples hours of being there.I made myself some coffee with Kat's kiereg and went and sat on her small balcony, taking the brisk morning california air. It was bittersweet, just knowing I'd be leaving but also going home to start packing.
This month would fly by. I would put my two weeks in at my part time job, pack up my apartment, hire a U-haul, spend a lot of time with my family, then I'd make the big transition to LA.
Around 7 o'clock Kat texted me and said her and Sam were about to head out and asked if I wanted some breakfast, which I happily accepted.
When she got to the house her, Sam and I all sat and ate the food they had brought back and then Kat went to shower quick before we had to head to the airport. While she was doing that Sam started to tell me about last night.
"Dude I don't know what's been going on between you and Colby, but he's been like, super happy lately" Sam said with a curious smile.
I felt myself blushing as I rolled my eyes.
"I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean it has to do with me..." I said, even though I knew it probably did.
Sam laughed and shook his head.
"I don't know, he just seems super happy" he said, "he told me you guys had been talking more a few weeks ago and that's about when I noticed."
I felt my heart warming up and I sighed and sat back on the couch.
"Yeah I mean we basically grew up together so we've always been so close. He kinda pushed me away for a while because he said it hurt too much, but I think he realized that made it worse."
I felt safe confiding in Sam about this, just because I knew he was also close to Colby and he wouldn't ever tell him we talked about it. Sam nodded.
"Yeah you can't push away those feelings cause they will always be there. But yeah I'm really glad you're moving out here, I think it will be really good for him. He's acting like he did back before we moved, it's nice to have the old Colby back."
I was so glad that Sam was happy about it. I was glad Colby was happy, I didn't realize how much of a toll it's been on him to not have me around.
I shook my head and bounced in my seat a little."I'm just so excited to see him again, you don't know how bad I want to just go over and give him a big hug."
I imagined hugging him in that moment and I smiled. Sam hadn't said anything, and when I looked over at him he was smirking at me.
"So do you think you guys are gonna get even closer once you're here... like, more than friends close?" He asked, his eyebrows raising and wiggling up and down.
My cheeks burned, I was caught of guard and I really didn't know what to say. Why would he even ask that?
"Umm I mean I hadn't really thought about it" I lied, "We've been friends for so long so I think that might just be weird... don't you think?"
The fact that I was trying to talk myself out of it was comical.
"Well Colby's definitely attracted to you" Sam said cautiously.
My eyes went wide.
"Wait what? How do you know?"
Sam shrugged.
"He's made it pretty obvious. Last night Kat had mentioned your post on Instagram saying how cute it was, and when he looked at it he was like 'holy shit'."
