Damen

I found out where Ever is today. She's a senior in high school. I'm at her school right now on my way to my first class, which is coincidentally A.P. English Lit. I just registered myself into this new school. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. I haven't been in school in over 500 years! Call me a stalker, but I just feel like I need this girl in my life and what better way to do it than to end up going to the same school as her? It sounds creepy but it just appears to be a coincidence.

I've never felt these feelings for any girl before. What does Ever have that makes me want to have her so bad? Anyway, as I enter my first class, I see Ever right away. I can tell by the way she looks at me that she is surprised to see me. I am not surprised at all, because that is what I want. I want to be near her. Since this morning, I haven't stopped thinking about her. It's like all of a sudden I started really liking someone that I don't even know. Everything's different with Ever.

As I'm standing there looking at Ever, Ms. Annabelle starts to introduce me, "Class, it seems we have a new student. He's come from the UK all the way to America! What's your name, dear?"

I snap out of my thoughts and say, "My name is Damen, Damen Evans."

She says, "Oh well, Damen. It's nice to meet you. I hope you like our school and have a fantastic time here for your last year. Now, take a seat next to the young lady right over there," she points to Ever. Oh, yeah. "Ever, please explain what is the assignment that I have given you."

I smile as I walk to my new seat. This should be good. Wait, what is that that I see? She has an aura, which means she's mortal. Really? The only girl that I have ever had any real feelings for is someone I can't be with.

You see, us immortals can't be with mortals, because many mortals die and immortals never do. So, they committed suicide, because they got tired and depressed every time they would see the person they fall in love with die. They wouldn't be able to turn their families into immortals, because it's a sin and if any immortal finds out, they would put the immortal in jail for a year. Which is the amount of time that it takes for an immortal to die without drinking the "Blue Ecstasy" elixir.

My mom and dad were already both immortal when they decided they wanted to be together, so they went through no problems, but this is different. If Ever is mortal, then I can't be with her, because all the immortals will find out and want to kill her. You see? They would rather kill a mortal than lose one of their own to love again. Even if they let me, what would happen if we get married and decided that we would want to have kids? Nobody has ever had a baby with a mortal.

It would be born half mortal and half immortal. It would be the only baby like that in the world. My parents are both immortal, so I was born immortal. When that happens, the baby can only go 5 years without having to drink Blue Ecstasy. If they don't drink it at all, the baby automatically turns mortal, because they need Blue Ecstasy to help them develop the characteristics of an immortal.

Sometimes, I just wish I was normal. I'll find a way to be with Ever, dead or alive.

"Hey, Nightingale," I say as I lean over my desk to talk to Ever.

"Oh, hi," she answers.

She doesn't even bother to look at me and just keeps on working.

"So, are you going to tell me what we're supposed to do or are you just going to ignore me?" I ask.

She replies, "We have to do an essay on what was our favorite thing we did this summer."

I say, "Well? What was your favorite thing that you did?"

"Don't worry about it," she replies.

"Damn, attitude!" I say as I sit back down on my seat and start doing this lame assignment. Why did I come here again? Oh, right, Ever.
